Been quite a while since I was in town. Overcast with sprinkles, a little walk with the D3, AF S 28-300 1:3.5 5.6 G

Interesting street scenes, QD, but I really like the Casino image - particularly with the pedestrian crossing sign on "Stop"! Nice series...

Thanks! I actually saw that and stood waiting for that point in the cycle to come around again. That is the corner of Pug McMahons, a popular watering hole I had always wanted to try. The owner died and the whole block closed down, casino, bar and Pizza place. Billings is supposed to be booming, but there are sure a lot of empty business sites!

Ah, another side of you Quixdraw, a street photographer. I guess every town has a graffiti alley and you captured this one well. Thanks for the tour, I haven't been in Billings for 40+ years and remember nothing about it except I had a cold beer and a cheese burger on my way to someplace or other.

Montana is an interesting state. Absolutely beautiful in some parts, in the summer.
In July 1990 I went on a driving vacation with my 15 year old son. Leaving Salt Lake City, we drove north on route 15 (I believe) through Montana. Stopped at a Motel 6 off 15 in Helena. The next morning as we were leaving we noticed a golf course next to the motel. With our our golf clubs in the trunk we decided to play a round before heading to Calgary.
We played with a local couple (who lived in a house along the golf course). He was telling us the price of homes along the golf course, which were dirt cheap by California standards. I couldn’t understand why?
When we got to the back nine, at one point we passed an old town with some freight train cars. He said to me “last winter, one of those freight train cars got loose and came into town, and eight people died.” I asked how, and he said “well, it hit the power station and they had no electricity for three days.” I still didn’t understand and he said “well, they were in their homes.” I told him I still didn’t understand how they could have died, and he said “it was 56 degrees below zero, and they froze to death in their homes.”
Like I said, Montana is beautiful in the summer.

Thank you! There is some new, but fortunately a lot of the old remains. There has been a shake up among some of the old businesses.

Thank you! Back to the future, did a great deal of that in NYC in the late '60's early '70s. Still a very nice, and pretty crime free town. Lots of good food in all price ranges, ya gotta know where to go!

Montana is an interesting state. Absolutely beauti... (show quote)

Does get very cold, but in my area of the state mostly the weather moves through fast. Lots of folks relocating here, just hope they don't forget why they left the place they came from. Most folks out here are prepared for just about anything with backups on food and ways to stay warm. Sorry for those who didn't / don't but it is all about preparedness. Still a lot of wide open space. Worst we had was -41° if I recall correctly.
