Learn from Mistakes

These Lilies are on a bank at the edge of an old cranberry bog. I thought it would look good to get low to the plants and have the packing house out of focus in the background. After I took the shot and was walking away, I started to think that there was probably too much space between the flowers that are in focus and the packing house. Most of the photo is out of focus.

Lesson learned: I should have gotten even lower and reduced the space between the subject and the point of interest in the background. Now that I see it on the computer, I think I also missed the exposure. I'll try a re-shoot and see if I can right the wrongs. This ever happen to you guys. If you wish to post a near miss, feel free.

P.S. If you download and then click on the lilies to make them big, you will notice that this lens really renders colors nicely. Rokkor 58mm from the seventies

Not all old lenses are great....but this one is. It is nice that, with mirrorless cameras, we can easily use lenses from many different brands with simple adapters. Cannon, Zeiss Jena, M42, Minolta, Konica....it all works.

All my phot are good. I have no near misses.😂, The nice thing is you may have a chance to reshoot those flowers with what you had in mind. The other plus you learned from your mistake.

I think I would get much closer to the flowers, making them more of the focal point since that is what you are capturing. If you are wanting to capture the flowers and the fact that they are at a bog, then make the flowers maybe on the lower left third of the frame. The bog with a little water showing would be on the right and the packing house straight above it, but flowers which are in focus would be the main attention.

The exposure seems fine, nothing blown and if it is too dark, it can be brightened if needed.

Just slide the house down closer to the flowers with Content Aware Scale in Photoshop. Easy.

That is a clever solution. Should work. Never tried that trick, though.

I'm going to give it a whirl, just because I've never tried that trick. I usually use content aware to erase things, not move them.
