Considering moving up from a Canon 7d but want to get an even better dslr and keeping my existing lens investment. Want to pick up a gently used 5d mark iv online. Some post the number of shutter trips which is helpful (I guess) to get a feel for how much use a camera body has.
1. If a 5d is used a lot for video, does that also cause wear to the system and if so what should I be looking for in the 5d menus that might indicate this?
2. Any other suggestions to help ensure I get a good value?
3. Any places other than ebay I should be looking?
Thanks!

Hi knuckle_649
Depending on your budget, I would look at the Canon store they have new & refurbished Eos 5d mark iv.
I have purchased refurbished cameras from Canon with no problems.
Also worth a look at is KEH, they have a good reputation.

Thanks will check them out!

What lenses do you have? That information is needed to help point to relevant ideas. How many EF-S lenses are you seeking to maintain usage? Which specific lens models?
How have you used your EOS 7D? Do you need a similar camera with the 1.6x crop factor? With a sophisticated AF tracking system for wild-life and fast action sports? Do you need a similar camera with a heavy, all-weather build?
When you ask about video, are you concerned about the pixel-size and frame rates, such as 8k vs 4k at 60 fps?
I have a broad range of canon lenses from wide angle to a tamron 150-600 and only one ef-s lens, a wide angle lens. I am happy with my current canon lenses.
I shoot landscapes wild critters architecture macro stuff and the like. This will be my last DSLR and have concluded that the greater number of focus points, larger sensor, and other features that the mark 4 has make it the best choice for me.
I was wondering about camera body wear if it is used mostly for video work. Does shooting a lot of video also wear on the body. I know still shooting shutter clicks are a thing to look for with canon projecting 150K clicks-though many 5d mark 4s go way beyond that.
Thanks!

Video doesn't add wear to a DSLR. The shutter opens once and remains open as long as the video recording is active. The sensor just records the digital data and writes to the card, for up to 30-minutes.
I had an EOS 7D for about a year. It was over-designed for my needs. I didn't (and still don't) shoot wildlife and sports in all weather situations for the majority of my shooting. Canon really got it right with the 5D line, especially the final 5DIII and 5DIV models. The 150k shutter life has been standard for the top-line EOS bodies for several generations, the EOS 7D too.
I asked about those rugged features of the 7D-family, along with the EF-S impact, to see if other EOS options make better sense. It seems, no, and that the EOS 5DIV is the proper choice of a final DSLR.
Appreciate your advice about the merits of the 5d mark 4!
I had found a mark 4 with low shutter count but the owner said he used it for a lot of video work. That is why I asked if video puts much wear on the camera body. A big help to me, Thanks!
Useful suggestions! Thanks!

All good advice! Thanks!
You probably want to use <quote reply> for specific and targeted replies to specific posts.
Suggest you try UsedPhotoPro.com. That’s where I got my 5D iv, looks absolutely new, but nearly $1000 under the new price last time I looked. Good luck.
