I've checked "Google" and it seems the Romans used it, but did the Mayans have this knowledge???......

Located approx. 4 hrs. south of the Riviera Maya, the Costa Maya has a wealth of Mayan ruins to explore,
most visitors here arrive off of cruise ships docked in the Port of Costa Maya by Mahahual.
The area is spectacular, beautiful beaches, great boutique hotels and restaurants with the best seafood
you can imagine, and of course many Mayan ruins to visit, local guides available to quench your thirst for
2012 information on the Mayan calendar.

It's funny how threads get changed around.... I thought this was about Dec. 2012 and the Mayan calender... which by the way didn't take into account the fact that we have leap days which means the actual date of Dec 2012 on the Mayan calender came and went months ago. We've had roughly 500 leap days since the Romans and western world adopted the Julian calender 2000 years ago. Plus, the Mayan calender doesn't say that it's the end of the world, just the end of that particular cycle. We have cycles too, they're called weeks, months, years, leap years, decades and centuries, but the end of that cycle doesn't mean its the end of the world, just the end of that cycle and a new one begins.

So full of the joy of this life, actually!

Reminds me of the religious person who spent every spare moment trying to convert people to his religion.

When he died an Angel came to him and showed him a glorious land with beautiful scenery, rivers, waterfalls and animals.

He looked around him in amazement. 'So this is heaven he exclaimed'.

'No' said the Angel, 'This is Earth and all gods creations, but you were so involved with yourself that you didn't see any of it'.

Amazing, you start off by trying to discredit my verse with your mumbo jumbo and now we find that you can't. Religions are made by man and they have nothing to do with Gods Gospel. Yes the Bible has been tampered with, primarily by footnotes. By your demeanor I put you in with the atheists .
There was a man who made a living mocking God by telling jokes about him. As he lay dying on a lonely highway he was heard saying, not now God not now. Another comedian who made his living mocking God died suddenly at 34. Should give you pause for thought. Now I will spoon feed you. Matthew 8:29 clearly shows us by the demons question that even they know they are on borrowed time. Those that mock God stand side by side with those demons who know they are on borrowed time. The big difference is they know it,you haven't a clue. That includes you who change the meaning of God's pure truth with your pathetic interpretations.

This subject has become extremely boring. However for the remote chance of educating people such as this - I will answer.

Interesting how people like Chewy say that anyone who does not agree with their dogma is an atheist.

I am not an atheist, but I do not follow any religion - not even the Spiritualist Church. I have been called Shaman - but that is just another label and so it is confining. You may say that I see the creator in EVERY little thing on earth and respect those creations and what I can learn from them.

Unlike Chewy and his like though - I have developed original thought and do not simply quote dogma from writings that have been so changed over the years.

The main purpose of organized religion appears for control of the many by a few. The church hasn't done badly from it either amassing great wealth. I could never understand why the followers had to be humble and slave every hour in the day while the leaders were getting richer and fatter. The top people even had palaces for goodness sake!

One bishop over stepped himself when he had a palace built for himself that was larger and grander than the king (Hampton Court Palace UK). Meanwhile there are a great number of people - that Chewy would class as atheists - who are actually more religious that some that profess to be.

Many years ago I visited a healing session at a church. In those days I did not know that there was faith healing and spiritual healing and that they are very different - apparently faith healing comes from god and spiritual healing from the devil!!!!!

This group turned out to be 'faith' healers and when I asked some questions I got horrified looks and was quickly passed on to the leader. He couldn't answer the questions either and shoved a paperback book - apparently a simplified bible that agreed with their dogma - and escorted me out the door.

It may surprise Chewy that some years later, this 'atheist' was invited to give a talk at a world religion conference.

Part way though I suddenly thought that these people have fixed ideas and won't like my original thought - so I checked where the nearest exit was.

As it happened I need not have worried as the people at the conference were open minded and received my talk very well.

From them and since, I have learned that there are leaders of some churches who are open to original thoughts. There are one or two people at UH who have show that they too can see outside the dogma.

I've checked "Google" and it seems the Romans used it, but did the Mayans have this knowledge???......

Indeed the Mayans used cement/mortar - the Yucatan Peninsula is mostly limestone as it is an old exposed sea bed. true it was not used in a lot of their building but they did use it.
The description of the tours and cruise ships is quite correct - just like anywhere you need to pick the right time of year to visit - it cam be to stormy or too hot certain times of the year. The ships that put into, Cozamel -only 7 mi off the coast at Playa Del Carmen allow plenty of time for a fast ferry ride to the mainland and tours to the main ruins -Talume, Coba & Chitza Nitza - they are in that order as close to distant.
The newer port of call mentioned is the old port of Calica that for many years was just a freight port. - If you need a guide while there let me know and I'll fix you up with my grandson -28 and lived there all his life.

A great book to pick up while there is "The Yucatan Before and After The Conquest" history of what the Church and Spain did to Mexico.
