The American Taliban is alive and busy trying to destroy our heritage. What's next??? Will they be going into our National Cemeteries and destroying all the grave markers of the fallen Confederate Soldiers?

You shouldn't have suggested it. They may not have thought of that yet - but they will!

So who gets canceled?
The snowflake super minority and the weak minded afraid of the Twitter warriors in their mother's basement who are offended by their shadow or the majority of Americans who love ALL our diverse history.

You named them! Now, they'll try to cancel you. (interesting that they always know their names.)

Yes, it is history and art, and the Confederate soldiers were brave, but their cause was distasteful to many of us. Bottom line in my estimation is that both the photographer and the hospital erred when they chose this image for a hospital...it was the wrong
setting for a controversial piece.
And, by the way, has anyone seen the news just this morning about the massacre in Buffalo?

The photographer did NOT choose the picture under discussion; the hospital did! And the South was not fighting for slavery (the North had slaves, as well). They were fighting against their oppression by the northern government.

Yes, there were other issues in addition to slavery. Point is, as noted on the discussion here, it's a hot topic, and the hospital was a wrong setting...and isn't that the main question here? The placement of a picture with a controversial subject !

Interesting - your comment (to my answer to someone else's post) proves my point!!! And stop looking in the mirror.

The main question was what the op should do. THEY picked the image, then changed their minds. They got what they paid for and now want another. The op asked what he should do.

I’m feeling a little deflated at the moment and would like some input. I’ve been lucky enough to be asked to produce 17 images, printed, matted, glazed and framed for my hospital. Among the first batch is a black and white image 24” x 36” of the local decommissioned courthouse. In front of the building is a statue of a Confederate Soldier. I was told a few hours after delivering them that they had to “put it away” due to the soldier. First of all, I didn’t pick the images. They were all chosen by the administration from among my portfolio. They are suggesting I replace the print with something else. I don’t want to. I like the image. It took a lot of work and it’s damn near perfect. I’m sorry that they won’t be displaying it, but, to remove it would harm the print, the backboard, and the matting. Sure, the frame would be fine, but it is a finished piece. A fine finished piece of art. What would you (anyone) do?

Our history is our history, and "hiding" it doesn't make it go away. It pains me to see the diminishing of our history because someone takes offense.

Yes, you're right re the main question, but our answers led to complications as to the reasons for doing so. I personally think the hospital should pay the OP for the mistake, and he should graciously accept and replace with a new image and charge accordingly

Folks, the client ALWAYS has the right to decide what they want or not, and change their minds for whatever reasons. That is perfectly normal in the photo business and not any conspiracy or sinister motive or agenda.

Trying to make this something bigger with any partisan rhetoric isn't addressing the facts, not fake news here.

Yes there is the real issue of racial sensitivity involved, and this country is still having a real epidemic of racial hate even 160 years after the civil war. Those are the facts. Just look at what happened in Buffalo.

But as objective photographers we just have to do our best work and hope it gets seen ,enjoyed and some enlightenment is perhaps conveyed in the process, and THEN just move on.

Cheers

a lot of times things get side tracked with answers. This is the case on any forum it. Once it happens, in it's hard to follow with the original post. I've done it myself sometimes.

I did not know that it was irresponsible not to Paragraph my Comment, although I did see after I posted that it did come across as 1 entire comment. But, just so you know, I'am not here to worry about paragraphs. So, here is what I say to you, Go to any Literature School that you choose and teach there. So, How about You worry more about Photography and Less about Grammar. SMH!!!
