The lower elevations in the foothills here in the Sierra Nevada mountains (western slope) are filled with many different species of oak trees. The oak tree here is a Valley Oak, one of the largest of all the oak trees in this area. This particular tree is many hundreds of years old-- it's a very large, stately tree with a majestic presence that dominates the landscape here in Mokelumne Hill.

Photo taken with my Nikon D800E and Nikon 24-85mm f3.5-4.5

Nice frame. I Googled Moke Hill and it's accessible and interesting (I've friends in Sac and Stockton) so I may drop into the area whilst on a trek... ;0)

Thanks, a beautiful image. Trees both with and without leaves are really special things to photograph. You found a good one.

Awesome, you should do it while the hills are still green (sort of lol). Turning brown fast--

Very nice. I also live in the foothills, and I'm surrounded by trees like this. I think that I have three distinct types of oak trees on my property. Your composition makes this picture stand out. I'm glad you're able to find these nice scenes to photograph. Jackson and other foothill towns are becoming a commercial mess. Have you thought of publishing a book of the beautiful scenes that you've preserved in your photos before development ruins them? (Have you driven on 50 through Folsom and El Dorado Hills lately?) Another question. You've used 5 different cameras just this year in taking your photos. What made you use this "oldie but goodie" over your Fuji GFX50R?
