Zippo is 90!

Zippo has a lighter to commemorate their 90th anniversary. It must be tough for them with smoking on the decline. I have a couple of dozen Zippo lighters. I'll have to post a picture sometime. I also have those long Zippo lighters for candles and wood stoves - and some Zippo handwarmers.

Whoops!!! It costs $175.

You knew that you had arrived at manhood when your Zippo lighter leaked its lighter fluid from your pocket onto your crouch!

I acquired and lost several Zippo lighters over the years... only one I cared about was from Vietnam but it went missing quickly after I returned.

Quit smoking in 1988.

Has anyone on UHH used JP4 when out of lighter fluid?

Never smoked but always loved flipping open a Zippo and striking a flame and yes my Levi’s and thigh were introduced to lighter fluid more than once.

Yes, I got my first Zippo over 50 years ago, there was finger manoeuvre the 'show offs' used to do to flick open the lid...never mastered it!

Yeah, I mastered that move many years ago, was real good at it, very quick and smooth. I spent many nights practicing till I got it perfected, and I could "zip it out" at the pub and impress the girls, and wouldn't you know it, just around that time, they all decided to quit smoking! (just my luck)!
Ray.

I never used JP4 but did use 115/145 avgas. Only problem was it evaporated too quickly, but in a pinch, it worked fine.

That can send your Zippo flying, and it has the opposite effect on those watching.

It's funny how in movies, it's always a Zippo used to start a huge fire.

115/145 is good but it's not as easy to get as JP4 for me as we flew UH-1. I did use JP-4.

I grew up about 45 miles from the Zippo Plant and have owned several Zippos. Twenty years ago I was employed by the company that provided security for the plant. The production has diminished somewhat and Zippo purchased Case Knives several years ago which has helped their income. Zippo also continues their lifetime warranty on the lighters and maintains a repair department for them in the Museum and Visitors Center.

The only lighter that I ever had that matched Zippo's guarantee was a Nimrod pipe lighter. Yes it was named a Nimrod. I still have that lighter and a few Zippos. I could open and ignite the Nimrod faster than most people could open and ignite a Zippo.
