Time to sow my lack of knowledge of filing. Probably a senior moment

Got a new SSD external hard drive. It has ben putting each day's work into a separate file, not named
So now I have weeks work scattered over the drive with out knowing what file contains what without opening it. Question is how to set the drive so that all files go into one regardless of when they were produced. Any help for this old &^%$ would be appreciated

On the SSD drive, right click on it and a window appears and the should be a choice that says create new folder. Right click on new folder and Rename the new folder anything you want like photos. From now on, put all photo files into that folder. It's also a good idea to rename the photo files by putting the date on the end of its name or make folders with dates and put photo files in each dated folder. Learn how to make folders and rename folders and files.

If I understand correctly you simply need to click the drive letter and then right-click to create a new folder and give it whatever name you desire. Simply export your files to that folder. Hope this helps.

Expanding on the above suggestions, here’s the method I suggest and use.

DO NOT ADD IMAGES TO ANY OF THE FOLDERS YET.
Create a new folder with the YEAR.
Create 12 Sub-folders with the month but name them 1-January, 2-February, etc. numbering them keeps them in chronological order instead of alphabetical.
Make sub-folders with each day (i.e. 01 January, 02, January, etc.)
KEEP THESE AS THE MASTER
At the start of each year, copy the master folder to a place on your drive.
In this way you won’t have to create almost 400 new folders each year.
You can always delete folders you have not used.

My 2¢.

I create year/month folders on the desktop and dump camera cards to them. Then go back, cull and copy to SSD (x2). Might seem clumsy to some, but works for me. (2020 MBPRO).

Ask someone in the know how to properly use your file system - navigating among drives, creating and renaming folders, copying files, moving them, deleting, renaming. A little hands on instruction will go a long ways.

Another suggestion. If you shoot with Nikon, Nikon Transfer will do all of this for you. It allows you to create file folder names you ant and file image names you want when you download the images from the card.

Or use a special program that costs money like Downloader Pro. I use Downloader Pro and have created a system for me that works for me. It is both date based and descriptive. The options available to you are endless.

Do you really want to create and use 377 separate folders, then on top of that, WORK from 377 separate folders????? There are MUCH easier ways!!! - which have been outlined here many times. In addition, at least some postprocessing software (ON! and Lightroom, and maybe others) have provided a simple "indexing" system which will more than take care of any requirements, and allow you easily to zero in on files you wish to find.

I find my system very easy.
January 1st I copy the master folders to a storage drive. Working in each month I store my files in each day that I take them. That’s it.
