Just curious.
I used to use Google but stopped after seeing an investigative report on the information they collect. A security firm put a sniffer on a phone using Google Maps. They turned on all the privacy options available which is supposed to prevent any consumer info from being collected. They then they turned the phone off, and made 6 or 7 stops in NYC. Back in the lab, they turned the phone back on and it immediately sent a burst of data to Google which showed every stop they made, as well as the route driven.

I have an iPhone that comes with Apple Maps but I prefer Google Maps. I have had situations looking for an address where Apple Maps did not have the street where google did.
My car came with GPS built in but the maps it uses are built in also and after a couple years they are far out of date.

I read an article just yesterday that the in car gps is the one thing no one uses. I use mine but also at times use my phone. My car doesn't have Android Auto but I wish it did. I update at least once yearly.
I have on a number of occasions.

Do any of you post images to google maps? I have submitted 220 images to just the conservation area I visit and not all birds.
Thank you for your kind words re my pictures.
May I ask what "TOS" means?

You are welcome and I meant it. They are very nice and of a quality not often seen on the internet these days.
I'm sorry TOS means "Terms Of Service.
You mentioned you didn't like google having the rights to your images. I recommend you read the TOS for 500pix.
After seeing your images, I understand why you don't want to contribute to Google. Google Maps is not a high quality venue for displaying quality images. Cell phone snap shots are more appropriate for Google Maps.

Oh yes Google Maps is superior. It annoys me that Apple keeps trying to force me back to Apple Maps. I wish i could vanquish it from the device for good.
Recall once upon a time Apple used Google Maps. However Apple and Google came upon a disagreement over profits, (they both wanted all the profits) and so Apple and Google parted ways. Apple bought (or leased?) the map system from Tom-Tom, which IMHO was far inferior. And Apple Maps didn't work worth a darn for a long time after that.

JD750 - I saw it several years ago, and think the segment was on either NBC or CBS.

Never posted but enjoy looking at what people post on google earth. My favorite was a flood control dam that the poster claimed generates all the electricity in a lake basin with seasonal population of about 2500 people. The only electrical line on this dam is a 220 v feed to open the gates. The dam is probably 100 feet wide an at full pool holds back less than 8 feet of water. It amused me that someone went to the effort of posting something that they clearly didn’t have a clue about. As to the pictures, I couldn’t get upset about some snapshot I posted showing the scenery at a place we visited. Doubt the google shareholders made any significant money on my efforts. Kind of like posting photos on this site.
