Time was not taken to maintain it better.

Unfortunately, time passes for all things. Also unfortunately, maintenance must continue, but often does not. Sad.

That is so. I sometimes get amazed at how much has "faded" within my own lifetime of experience. I think of the many people I have known that gave me first hand stories going back to WWI. And how much the world has changed. Sadly, it does dishearten one to see so many things, especially evils, recur in new visages. (I.e., Putin with Rasputin. I call the present one "Che-raz-Putin". "Che-Raz" being Slavic for "Once again.")
