Does anyone here use things like Google Drive or One Drive. I may have accidentally signed up for both of these drives. However, now and then when I am working between PS and LR sometimes a file ends up on one or the other. So now I have 3 different places where files live, and have to look for them and guess which one they are in. Today I was saving from PS to LR and it was going well. All of a sudden I could not find a file I saved from PS to LR. After a search It finally turned in Google drive. How it get there? I really would like to simply use my portable drives but would like to know how I can removes Google and One drives completely. I know this is a rant and shows my lack of comprehension of today's technology, so be kind..please, if you choose to answer this post

I use Google Drive for some items I want to share or access on another one of my devices. I don't use it enough to pay for the extra storage. I might have half a dozen items on it, and then I remove some and add others. Dropbox occasionally pops up and asks me if I want to move something there. I don't. I also have a few things on Dropbox.

I may have accidentally signed up for both of these drives. No, I rejected both, and yet there they are... like all those beautiful women when I was young, they would not accept no thank you.

I am now part of the "Microsoft team" really....!!

I use the free version of One Drive for easy sharing of files (not just photos).
But I NEVER use cloud storage for working files, only for archive or "transfer".

Remove?
What OS?
What app?
Windows go to Control Panel; select Programs and Features; uninstall the program you want to remove.
PS or LR - no idea.
Apple - no idea.....

For both Google Drive and OneDrive if you have the free version then you need to look carefully at your terms of service. Make sure you understand what guarantees they give you. Or what they don't give you. I think you will find that a backup service that you pay for gives you something much more secure. Even if you pay for additional space, you may not have the performance guarantees that you want.

They are both good services. I use them both. But they are not my backup services. This is intended as a word to the wise.

While I am a big fan of major cloud services for a disaster copy of my data, I am not at all a fan of services like One Drive or Google drive when they run in the background constantly syncing or moving data between the local drive and the cloud. This is NOT the same thing as manually moving data to either for sharing or archive/DR or running a regular automatic backup to the cloud. We use OneDrive at a company I consult for and I hate it - it’s never clear where exactly the data resides depending on when the local machine syncs to the cloud. I’ve also used Google Drive for file sharing for quite awhile, but somehow, without any action on my part, it began moving files to the cloud. That was uncool, and when I saw it occur, I uninstalled all the internal Google Drive applications.

i understand in depth the concept of a hybrid cloud for enterprise computing, but I’m not interested in participating at a private user level in that type of architecture - I want to know exactly where each copy of my data resides.

Since you did not mention the OS you are using it is possible that both Google drive and One drive have drive letters assigned on your system. Just be certain that you are aware of where you are sourcing your images as well as saving your work to.

On Windows systems you can stop
/start those services when you see fit. I only login to them when required.

I have both of these cloud based services available to my systems as well as dropbox. I do use them but for sharing purposes only. I have a local NAS that I use for backups and remote access while out of the house.

I usually process my images on the local drive. When finished I store them on my 8TB NAS.

If you choose Microsoft OneDrive to store your personal data and images, it’s worth being aware of the following:

“ Data stored on OneDrive is subject to monitoring by Microsoft, and any content that is in violation of Microsoft's Code of Conduct is subject to removal and may lead to temporary or permanent shutdown of the account. This has led to privacy concerns in relation to data stored on OneDrive. Microsoft has responded by indicating that "strict internal policies [are] in place to limit access to a user’s data", and that advanced mechanisms, such as Microsoft's automated PhotoDNA scanning tool, are utilized to ensure users abide with the Code of Conduct and that their account does not contain files in contravention thereof, such as partial human nudity (including art or drawings), or any online surveys.”

Fortunately, automatic software has never made a mistake.

One guy had a video demonitized by YouTube and almost had the video removed. They couldn't tell him why, but he had a friend go through the text that YouTube generates. In the video, he mentioned the Greek island of Lesbos, and that's the only thing he thought might have caused the misunderstanding. He explained this to YouTube, and they un-demonitized the video.

I use Google Drive all the time to send my photos to my customers. I've never had any complaints.

thanks for that info. I want to keep using Google Drive to send big files to people, but I want to stop it from syncing everything automatically. It's really slowing down my system! What do I need to uninstall?

If you’re using windows, right click on the start button, select “settings”, go to Programs/applications, scrloo down to Google Drive and chose uninstall.

I don't remember ever having to sign up for Google Drive. I think Google Drive is automatically activated without cost for Gmail accounts with a base amount of storage capacity. I use two different Google Drives (two different Gmail accounts); one to transfer new pages and images to a co-worker, and the other to transfer images from my cellphone to my computer. Neither Drive comes anywhere close to using up the free space, but I "clean up" after myself. In neither case is there any "synching" going on, so that must be caused by a setting I haven't used. If there is a Google Drive product for a desktop I have never looked into it. Maybe that's causing the synching.
