Well, I go in the morning to renew my DL. What a nightmare to get an appointment set up and so many requirements. I have to take my certified birth certificate, my SS card, a two page application filled in and my current DL. Good think I'm not trying to do something like vote.

Or cross the southern border.

Sounds like you're getting a Real ID compliant drivers license.
They were going to be required by October 2021, but due to Covid the deadline was extended to May 2023.
Send your thank-you note to Congress and the TSA (Homeland Security).
In some cases females are required to bring marriage license because their current name differs from their birth certificate.
While not required to vote, Real ID will be required to fly domestic airlines or visit a federal facility.

Yes, it will be the new Real ID version. Nobody is complaining about all that. But ask for a valid ID to vote. Whew. Apocalyptic suggestion.

Try getting an appointment during the height of the pandemic. The trick is finding the little out of the way offices.

Are you actually saying that someone can cross the southern border without any paperwork and then
get a free smartphone and then get a DL and free transportation to a conservative state or city and vote
in our elections without?
Come on man!!! Making this stuff up is not nice.

My point was how much tedium and hassle is involved in renewing a driving license and nobody cares but ask for valid ID proof for voting and it's unreasonable. And yes, I did see a story about giving illegals a phone so they can be reached. And yes, some of them are voting. Along with some of our deceased acquaintances.

The argument is that driving is a privilege, whereas voting is a right.
So it's ok to demand documentation to get a drivers' license.
But demanding an ID is characterized as an unreasonable attempt to interfere with the right to vote. Which in my opinion is an incorrect, dishonest exaggeration.
But that's the argument.

But David, if you don't verify the ID of the voter, then how do you prevent that person from voting multiple times at different polling stations?

You can't. Which is why I support voter ID.

I was simply stating the usual argument against voter ID, that it's an undue "hardship" and therefore a deterrent and infringement on people's rights. Which, as I said, I consider to be a dishonest exaggeration.

There is nothing wrong with some type of government issued ID being required. But to many places once made it extremely difficult to get that.

Due to public outcry those days appear to be in the past.

Those that want to limit voting have now moved on to more insidious ways.
Nonstop boxes
No early voting
Ballot harvesting .
Etc

Each of these as well as ALL other avenues and rules for voting can be abused, but to many dishonestly claim these ways to make voting easier for Americans are ripe with abuse . They use antidotal evidence to stereotype the whole.

It nothing more than “ throwing out the baby with the bath water “. Fix the problems don’t kill the processes

Voting should be made as easy as humanly possible .

For example why do we limit voting to one day? There is no reason ?

I was facetious. I didn't mean to imply you didn't know these things. Sorry.

Black people should be offended that the Dems always imply that they are too stupid to know how to get an ID.
Everyone else seems to get cancelled for offending someone. Blacks should cancel the Dems.

Or, God forbid, you would have to take a driving test again?
