Hi all. The images shot in RAW format on my Panasonic FZ200 bridge camera are flat when processed. In camera and when downloaded in the Panasonic software the colors are bright and vibrant. When I bring them over to Picasa for post processing they appear dull and flat.
JPEG images taken by the camera are bright and vibrant when put through post processing.
I've attached an example of a RAW and JPEG.
Does anyone know why this is happening?

JPEG
Hardly a real comparison as they are different shots taken under very different lighting conditions. If you want to do a REAL comparison, then take 2 images of the same scene at the same time under the same conditions. One in each format.

I;ll post a comparison as you suggested. Below is a picture taken in RAW a few minutes after the JPEG photo. I took several in RAW that day and they all appear dull. However, the JPEG are more vivid.

Much better thanks. The colors in person and in camera are much brighter. I'll try processing in Elements 10 and see what happens. This is a new model camera so I'm wondering if perhaps Picasa needs to account for that.

I really don't think you understand. There is no way to compare image quality between two different formats when they are taken in totally different lighting situations. Photography is LITERALLY the capturing of light. If you want an honest comparison and an intelligent response you need to post shots taken together in the SAME light, otherwise advise given here by anyone is pointless and of absolutely no significant purpose.

You do have to PROCESS the RAW images you can't use them straight from the camera

Yes. I'm well aware of that. Thanks for your input. I'll post a true comparison and you will see.

Although the image is brighter, it is still not as bright as I am seeing in camera or In the Panasonic software. I do not have this problem with my dslr when shooting RAW.

Yes but I only have a copy to work from !
You need to remember that you are comparing 2 vastly different sensors there, as well as two totally different software preset parameters. ALL JPG images are transformed from RAW, whether it is done automatically in camera with that group of presets, or in PP with either a set group of presets or manually based on your eyes judgement.

These were both taken at 2.8. 1/200. ISO 200. I loaded them in the software and then opened Picasa.
RAW converted to JPEG
