From the Mich. Orchid Society show last Sunday. I've been going for 20 years. The show was small this year. Interestingly, I have found that shots of Hybrid Orchids always end up as square compositions. These were all shot with diffused flash.

These are incredible!! Not surprising from what I've seen from your lens before, but they are stunning without being over-the-top!

The photographs are as pretty as the flowers!

Thanks, I appreciate that. I did try to go over the top with the orange closeup, though.

The strobe always make them seem a bit clinical.
I always go natural light.

Well, hybrid orchids have that type of look to them to start with. Nice shot of yours of a wild Showy. I like natural light. But even outdoors I supplement it with flash. This is my wild orchid shot outdoors.

Nice.
I just can't use flash outdoors. I want them to look like they do in the wild. I also never shoot in the sun but use diffusers.
I've been shooting that same orchid since 1973 when I first found it.
Now I know there are many hundreds of them (along with yellows and pinks over the spring) in this same area.
Toughest part is keeping folks from mowing them since they grow 6 inches from the road in some areas.
