Not sure if this is where I need to post this. I own a Canon 7D camera and the auto focus is not working. I tried
different lens and it's not the lens. Could it be something with the camera? Before I take it for repair, could it be one of the setting.? I can adjust the distance, but it does not focus back and forth. Thanks
Connie
Try gently cleaning the contacts on the camera where the lens goes. A dry cotton bud is probably the safest option.
This is probably a stupid suggestion but sometimes we miss the obvious. Have you set the camera to be manual focus only?
Do you have the camera’s Focus Priority set to Focus or Release? Focus is what it is, it won’t take an exposure unless focus is locked on to the subject. Release means it will take an exposure regardless of whether it’s in focus or not. Rich
I have clean the contacts and check check setting and still not working.
Thanks
Is the camera set up for back button focus by any chance?

Does it happen on all lenses or just one? That'll determine whether camera or a particular lens is at fault.

The 7D does not have manual focus, that is reserved to the lenses.
If several lenses do not AF, then, as suggested clean the contacts.
If that fails it might need service.
You did not set up BBF or some other setting?
Holding my 7D here I cannot see any other reason except something wrong with the camera.

When i purchased my used 7Dii it would not AF properly. I checked the firmware version (in the menu settings) and it was out of date according to the Canon USA website so i downloaded the update, read and reread the installation instructions and updated. Works perfectly, lowest cost solution was welcomed.
It happens with all lens. I even try a friend's lens and the auto focus did not work.
Thanks
Connie
Save any images on Cards, then reset camera to default. Power camera off, then on, try that, see if your AF works. or take the lenses & borrow a different Canon body & see if they work

Try 'shutting down' the camera. This has worked on several 7D cameras I've had to 'fix' when they've had hit and miss focussing.
With the camera switched off remove the battery. Also remove the small 'date holder' battery so that the camera shuts down fully.
Leave for 20/30 seconds at least and then re-insert the small 'date holder' battery and the other battery. Switch on the camera with a lens attached and check if it will autofocus.
It costs nothing and 're-booting' the camera has fixed focus problems on a few I've 'fixed'.
Try calling Canon Tech to see if they can talk you thru a fix. (877)287-7032

I had the same problem with my Canon 5D III. It needed new internal computer. Cost: About $600.
