I haven't posted any photos on here in awhile, probably since around July or August of last year, even though I had been out shooting right up until the end of 2021. I was pretty busy last year at the fire department where for the past 50 years I have been a member and volunteer fire fighter. I pretty much put off processing all of the photos that I shot for the last 5 months of the year, but planned on getting around to them after Christmas. Well, 2022 started out okay, but that changed rather quickly, as despite being vaxxed and having the booster shot, I got Covid early on, was pretty sick for most of January, and stayed home just about all month.
Anyway, after a few feeble and failed attempts in February going down to a park near the Hudson River trying to get some eagle shots, I did go out this past Sunday and took some sunset photos down by the river in Beacon, NY. Hopefully I will get around to processing the photos taken at the end of last year real soon too.
These were all taken with a Nikon D800 and 24-120mm f/4 lens, at around 6:30PM to about 7:05PM. The first two shots are the same image. The second one I opened up the shadows a bit more so the buildings on the west side of the river could be seen better.
The shots were taken in the area of the old Newburgh-Beacon Ferry Terminal, which ran between the two cities until the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge opened on November 2, 1963 and ended the ferry service. When it opened in 1963, the bridge was a single span 2 lane (one each direction) bridge. A second span was built and opened in 1980 and has 3 lanes of Eastbound traffic, while the old span carries westbound traffic. You can see the remnants of the pilings from the old ferry terminal in several of the shots. A new, smaller ferry now runs between the two cities transporting people from the Newburgh area to the Metro-North Train station in Beacon.
The last three shots were taken just a bit South of the old ferry slip from Long Dock Park, a 19 acre park with walking trails, Kayaking, biking and picnic area, which opened in 2009.
