Has anyone even heard a good rumor as to when Nikon will begin to ship the Z24-120 S lens (which I have had on order for weeks).

No one here is going to be privvy to any "inside information". The most reliable source of leaked or advance information is in fact nikonrumors.com

Here is the definition of Rumor, "a currently circulating story or report of uncertain or doubtful truth".

I've had mine since 2021-12-28. Purchased from B&H.

I think it’s a 24-100 f4. And I have no idea about shipping dates. YouTube videos are claiming it is a good lens, marginally sharper in the corners compared with the 24-70 f4. I’ll be renting one when they’re available as a possible swap for my 24-70 f4 workhorse.

I ordered mine within a few hours of Nikon taking orders and received it right before Christmas. It's hardly been off my camera since its arrival. I love the lens. I can't compare it to the 24-70 F4 since I never owned one, but I wouldn't trade the 24-120 for the 24-70. I'm quite pleased with the 24-120. It still can't replace the 85mm for portraits or even the 105 for that matter but for a fantastic walk around, landscape, travel, workhorse of a lens, it's a winner. I hope you get yours soon. I'd be shocked if you weren't happy with it.

I ordered mine from Adorama on 11/23/22 and received it last Friday - 3/4. I'm a fly fisher and fly tyer, taking a lot of close-up images which I use on my RiverKeeper Flies website (www.johnkreft.com). I was teaching how to tie this fly on a Zoom meeting last Friday and decided to give the lens a try. I've been using a Z50 and Tokina 100mm macro lens. This image is was taken about 10 inches from the lens on a Z6ii 1/6 sec at f10 ISO100 with a task light above (cropped by about 50 % in Lightroom). I wasn't intending to use it for this purpose, but was amazed how close I could get at 120mm!

Thanks to all. I did not order fast enough and now no estimate on delivery time. Good to see users are pleased.

It is indeed a 24-120 F4! I LOVE my copy, but I would never swap it for my 24-70 F4 because that lens is lighter. I will be keeping both. Best of luck.

Nikon site says 4.5 oz difference between the two. I have a DSLR 24-120 f4 and it gets a lot of use for my shooting. The 24-70 range was too short at the long end to make a difference in my shooting."your mileage may vary..."

Optically they seem similar and both are same speed (F4$. So other than the mass difference what have you noticed that is different? Distortion? Sharpness? Speed of focus?

Other than the mass differences what is the reason to have both?

If the 24-120 was available before I bought the 24-70 F4 (in my first Z6 kit), I probably wouldn't have both. Given the value of the used lens, I am keeping it, at least for now. Best of luck.

I understand that.

Thanks.
