I just got back from a week's long vacation at Morro Bay Ca. On the first full day my wife and I drove up Hwy 1 a few miles past San Simeon to the beach were the Elephant Seals hang around. The photo's below show what we saw there. Most of these shots were taken using a 500mm canon lens since it is illegal to get too close to these guys (The big males can weigh over 5000 pounds, so this is also a good reason not to get too close). There where 100's of these seals resting along the shore and didn't seem to mind all the people looking at them from behind the guard rail just above the beach. All questions, comments and suggestions are welcome.
Big yawn.

Then time for a nap.

Day at the beach. Note the trails left in the sand were the seals drug themselves along.

Flipping cool wet sand on your back feels good on a sunny day.

Did you just call me "Jimmy Durante" ?

As the male would waddle on the beach you could see his fat ripple along.

The yodeler. Every now and then one of the males would make a loud noise.

Moving on the beach is hard work after a swim, time to rest before moving any farther.

Looks like a bunch of large sausages scattered on the beach, these guys know how to relax.

Great photos, looks like the ones who care about their skin use sand for sun-block..
