Accessing “ D “ drive on my laptop

Since there are quite a few computer gurus on this forum I thought I would ask for help. I ordered a Dell laptop 2 years ago with a 128 gig ssd “ C “ drive and a 1 tb “ D “ drive for pictures etc. Unfortunately the D drive is password protected ( which I did not ask for ) and I have to enter a code to unlock it every time I want to store any data. I contacted Dell about turning this feature off but only got instructions on entering the code. Anyone else had a similar experience? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. Oh btw it’s running Windows 10.

Follow the directions for entering the computer's setup page and then on the setup page in the section for the HDD go to the "change password" and enter the present password and where it asks for the new password leave it blank. I had to do that for my wife's desktop's C drive since she doesn't even want to be bothered with a 4 digit PIN number.

Thanks for your reply. It’s not a problem when starting the computer to use the 4 digit code. It’s the 15 character code that has to be entered to access the d drive that’s the problem. I quite often download music to copy to my phone for later listening. So far I’ve been using only the c drive to store them because of the hassle of accessing the d drive. I was hoping for a way to turn off the password requirement but appreciate your input.

That is the way to get rid of the password for the D drive. Go to the setup page when you first boot up (dell support has instructions on how) and you will find the C and D drive, make the change from the section for the D drive.

Thanks. I’ll try that. It will a blessing to be able to use that drive. Wish I had asked sooner. Thanks for the info.
