We are going to Yellowstone in September and I am interested in reputable photo tours. Landscapes and wildlife, of course, are of interest.

I would appreciate your recommendations.

When are you going? We’ll be there the 28th through Oct 15.

Do you hike at all?

i went a few years back and did a yellow bus photo tour that was pretty good. Not sure about the yellow bus name, but it was whatever the park offered. It went out from the hotel over at old faithful

We will be gone by the 18th. This is just a first non-skiing trip to see what is there.

Most photograph tours are on preset schedules (a ton of these from NatHab, as well as many other reputable photographic groups). There are also individuals who run private tours but these are quite pricey. And you can do it on your own, relatively easily unless you are looking for photographic guidance? And potentially hire a guide for a day for wildlife? Examples:

If I were in your place, I'd PM MT Shooter (aka Carter Bouslaugh) who, before retiring, used to run the Camera Cottage, a store near the park (and his own workshops I think) in Montana, and ask for his recommendations. He has been exceptionally generous sharing his expertise with other UHH members.

Mike, I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for but check out https://gypsyguide.com. It is a narrated guide through your car audio. GPS guided so it starts and stops wherever you are. I've used them a number of times in national parks and found them wonderful. Very informative and entertaining and not obtrusive. And quite inexpensive.

If it meets your requirements there are none better.

Enjoy Yellowstone. It's a national treasure.

Several years ago I took a photo wirkshop with Jared Lloyd. It covered Grand Tetons, Jackson Hole and Yellowstone. I would highly recommend him. He has a Facebook page.
PM if you want more information

I've been to Yellowstone five times now for mostly wildlife and did hire Mike Jackson one time. Jackson was really expensive but perhaps I did not negotiate well at that point. He did lead me to the shot of the moose that I was looking for. I've gone with five different guides. For wildlife what matters a lot is how well the guide can spot. A good spotter is required to get the most and best shots. A guide who simply follows the cars and the crowd is not the best one to get and I've had one of those. I think that going with a general tour group won't get you the shots you want. Check out the photo tours people have recommended and choose one that comes highly recommended by photographers who have experience. I'm set for my sixth trip in March and my seventh trip in May/June. I have hundreds of wonderful shots from Yellowstone and simply love being there.
