I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has had prints made on metal. I make large prints...up to 40 inches wide...but always on canvas. I'd like to hear your thoughts on metal prints. How good are they and are they worth the price. Thanks.

I've had two made so far and they're not super-large, each being 16x20. They are both landscape shots, one of Lake Tahoe and the other of the Golden Gate Bridge just before sunrise. I'm impressed by the richness of the color and think that they look better than canvas. It's been so long that I've forgotten what each of them cost, though I do remember that one was printed by a lab in San Diego and one by a lab in Florida. Give one a try, you'll like it!

We are very happy with the two we have had done. Metal gives a better range of finishes. Our canvas prints are good for the subjects, but would not work for our metal subjects.

I'm weak on this response, however I purchased quite a few and each were commendable with super hangings on the back from Costco. They said that the ink is a wonderful ink that has something like 90 years before fading. Don't need frames and look great without a frame. Their hooks were so easy to mount, simply hang the wall mount like you want and hang it about 3/4" from the wall.

I sold 6 to separate clients, which says something about metal print looks. Costco no longer sales in house, rather they sell thru the web.

The ink is the greatest option to be concerned with as many use cheaper inks. I just stay with Costco because of quality.

Pricey.
Finishing is important. Mat seems to be the best.
I print up to six feet x 3, metal.
A print like this one cost about $750.00, shipping included. (Whitewall)

I’ve printed quite a few via CGPro. They have coupons quite often as well. I believe they are now just called proprints. Good colors, good hanging hardware, reasonable pricing.

I’ve used prodpi for other printing. They are excellent. And have prints on aluminum. Good customer service as well.

I was given one as a Christmas gift a couple of years ago. My wife picked one of her favourites of mine, and had Costco do it.

I’m very happy with it. It looks terrific (although I says it as shouldn’t) and it was a great gift.

Whoa! That's a freaky portrait...or whatever it is. I can't decide if it's a real person or something else...but I really like it. Thanks for your input.

Thanks for all the input. I guess I'll have to give them a try. Just what I need...spending more money on prints.

I've had Bay Photo make two metal/Acrylic prints, one 30x40, and one 28x36. Both are outstanding, and garner no end of compliments.

I love my metal prints. Bay Photo and Aluminize metal prints have been purchased in various sizes. I love the color brightness. They are easy to hang with no matting and framing required. Please give them a try...they are amazing!

In a small photography gallery with which I am associated, metal prints outsell canvas and traditional framed combined. The images involved are primarily landscapes, both grand scale and more intimate. Colors are richer and more vibrant, clarity is superior to other print mediums. Numerous labs nationwide offer metal prints; increasingly, many of those labs are affiliated under umbrella ownership. Earlier this month, there was a significant increase in prices of metal prints at every lab our gallery uses regularly, both the affiliates and one independent, family-owned lab. Metal has almost always cost somrwhat more than canvas, but now the cost gap has widened further.
