Hi, I just got my Nikon Z9. Since I am not a photography earning serious enthusiast/amateur/hobbyist, I don’t need 2 or 3 cameras so not sure keeping the D500 w 5556 shutter counts makes sense. What have others who received a Z9 done with their other cameras.

Since you're not sure what to do, why not just hold on to your D500 for a little while, then decide on a rational basis what to do with the D500 after you have some experience with your Z9?

Thank you, makes sense. I don't want to be in a situation where I have to make a decision about which camera to take when I want to shoot: travel, friends, events, etc. HN

If I was going to switch to a Z9 I would dismantle my DSLR gear set piece by piece, only after replacing each piece with Z gear.

Got my Z9 last week from a 10/28 pre-order. What an amazing camera! I am keeping my D850 and D500 as they have been my steady and reliable companions for a few years now. I will probably sell my D800, but keep my D7200, which I use for street photography. I will sell some of my 15 f-mount lenses and start picking up Z glass. When Nikon releases a few more less expensive bodies along the lines of the Z9, especially a DX body, I’ll sell the rest of my dslrs and f mount glass.

After using your Z9 you'll not likely want to use the D500. Get what you can for the D500. That's what I would do.

The Z9 does not have a focus motor in the body so you are limited to using lens with focus motors for AF. I am keeping my D500 because it is still Nikons best crop body and it has a focus motor for the lens without focus motors.

I upgraded to a D7200 and use it with my 18-200 and kept my D7000 for my Sigma 10-20. Don’t have to change lenses in the field.

A lot depends on the lenses you now own and use and whether you shoot with just one camera body or two. And if you need a backup camera.

I have a Z9 on order and plan on keeping both my D500 and D850. I am going to sell my D800. Eventually I may end up selling my D500 and D850 but I am not going to do that right away.

For someone who’s not serious about photography it seems like you have a lot of money invested in your non-profession, non-hobby. Why not look to donate your surplus gear to a school? Or send it to me?😳

If you currently or possibly in the future shoot telephoto but don't want to carry large, heavy telephoto lenses, a DX camera would make a lot of sense. The D500 is one of the best, if not THE best crop sensor camera you can get, especially for wildlife, BIF or anything that needs fast AF.

Danny, it has been a serious hobby for many years; I just don’t pursue making money off it. But thanks.

R.G. One venue that I do considerable photography is ballroom dancing, which requires a fast lens and high FPS, thus my D500. I will compare t Z9 w the D500 for subtleties to decide. Thank you
