Hello everyone, I am always talking about one of this days getting myself a macro lens as I would like to learn to use and shoot some little critters.
Well my wonderfull wife came home with a Tamron AF 60 mm F/2 Di ll Macro 1:1 lens for my Sony A 55 and said here you are start shooting !!
So can any one suggest a good source of information for shooting in macro mode?

Don't know about sony but an impotant tip to remember. vibration/movement is your enemy even your pulse, so try to be as relaxed as possible when shooting. take a couple of good deep breaths and try to shoot whilst breathing out.
Also remember you may be able to use the same lens with the camera set on sports mode i can do this with my canon. If you can rock slightly forward and backwards pointing at the subject you have focused on and try to stopbefore the next shot is taken. takes prctice but when you've got it you will get many great shots. good luck and hope this helps welcome to the addiction

If you really want sharply focused images in Macro use a tripod. Tripods really are essential provided the subject is not moving. If the subject is moving then to get really sharp images you can expose in manual mode using flash as the main light source. Then use can stop down to f/16 or so and a reasonably fast shutter speed of about 1/100s

Flash with macro? If it is a macro you are very close and there will be a shadow.

Not so. Check out the many samples on the macro forum on UHH and many on the web. Many macro photographers use diffused flash, some very simple DIY devices. Look at the set-up links as well.

I have to say that there is one thing you'll have to do BEFORE shooting in macro mode. Make sure that, that wonderfull wife of yours knows how much you care for her. If you just run off to take pictures, she'll know that your love is to your camera and not her! She has tried to show you where her thoughts are in her purchase for you.

Don't forget to use mirror lock-up if your camera will do it.

A search with Google will give you lots of ideas. Also, take a look here, and click on the Macro heading.

Just some of what you can do, I did this as a size comparison for a client to photograph his parts for the HO Model Railroad hobby and yes that is a dime it is next to, using a white background would have been useless with the material used so black would bring out the detail more and using a couple fill spot flashes overhead with defusers to spread the light out more.

I used a Nikon 60mm Micro f/2.8 lens

Part DP 6652
Part DP 6652...

Great shot, but I'd hate to be one who had to assemble those parts - and then paint them.

Great DOF. Curious about working distance & aperture. Camera to surface of dime must have been very near to parallel-- or is this stacked?
