I am currently having a problem with one of the recievers for Direct TV, it just stopped working for no apparent reason. I contacted Direct TV, explained to them that the receiver has power but will not come on. They offered to replace it for free, but I had to pay $20.00 for shipping. It didn't go too well after that! The first question that came to mind is "Why would I pay for shipping on a piece of equipment that belongs to Direct TV?" And, Direct TV has been charging me $5.00 per month to rent this receiver (for the last 19 years!), which adds up to over $1100.00 but apparently that was not enough profit for them and now they are asking for another $20.00?

I balked at the whole idea and told them just to cancel my subscription. I was immediately transferred to another person who opted to "waive" the shipping costs. But this doesn't take in account that the reciever will be sent to me in two to five buisness days, so in the mean time, no Direct TV in my bedroom. No compensation offered for that..

This whole scenerio is just wrong. Direct TV is loosing their butts to companies like Netflix, Apple TV, and Hulu. You would think they would treat their customers a little better. The more I think about it, I just might dump these guys and find someone who will offer some better service..

We have their sister ATT Uverse, when approached by someone from ATT/Direct TV I simply tell them their company has once more become bloated and needs to be blown up again.

Before I cut the cord with Optimum I told them they couldn’t see the handwriting on the wall reminded them that people were cutting the cord every day.
I did this over 2 years ago. I kept the Internet so I could use You Tube TV. That costs me $66 a month and includes all my TVs in NY & FL.
Bottom line…they just don’t care.

We dumped DTV about a year ago when they tried to give us a huge price increase. We'll never go back.

AT&T customer service is awful, getting worse, and no one at upper management seems to know or care.

This past fall, I received an email from Directv stating I would receive this season's Sunday Football Ticket for free. I'm not a big football fan and don't know why they gave it to me.

I quit DirecTV because of price hikes and because the DVR they gave me was unreliable. Recordings had big issues such as freezing or speeding up in the middle. A replacement box behaved in the same way. It was intolerable. The sales person who convinced me to switch from Comcast to them just plain lied about the trajectory of price hikes in the future, and their customer service said that he was not authorized to make any promises on future pricing. He gave me his phone number at the time the initial contract was signed. I initially tried to work through him when the prices started being jacked up. He assured me that he would take care of it. As soon as I got their customer service involved, his phone became no longer working. I moved and went with Comcast again. It isn't perfect. I'm having to reset a box once or twice a week. The price was reasonable for the first two years, but now it isn't. They all suck in some way.

Two weeks ago I called Dish about raising my monthly fee from $116 to $162 and was pretty much told to reduce my package and insurance if I didn’t like it. I called yesterday with the idea of politely cancelling and going to internet providers and they ended up offering a two year locked in price of $122.

Streaming will be taking a good bite out of cable/dish. Then they’ll screw us…

It all depends on the competition. I've known few monopolies that didn't raise their prices whenever they could get away with it.

I switch from DIRECTV to Hulu TV. Problem is Hulu TV is now $75 a month. But I still like it.

I have DISH & the big problem here is what they offer for the price & the fact that we no longer have any local servicing dealer. I have a very "cheap" package with many, many mostly useless channels. I probably have an actual useable 5-10 channels that offer anything watchable, yet am paying for a lot more that are just crap; like the "home shopping" channels. Why should anyone pay for stuff like that?

We used to have Direct TV when it first became available and loved it. All the installers were old satellite techs, and they did a great job. Unfortunately, that changed over time and when we had problems with the service, they sent 3 techs on 3 separate calls who didn't have a clue - so we switched to FIOS and never looked back. I still can't believe Verizon actually ran fiber to my house.

Yes, that's sad, but not surprising. Still, to get a replacement for $20 - not bad.
