What about my statement was not true? He is white, they are not. He is old, they appeal to an audience that is not old. Why do you automatically put things in terms of racial motivation?
I think we can all agree racism is ugly and needs to be stamped out. As an older guy in IT, I now understand better what it is like to be discriminated against - in my case age. We all need to stop framing things in terms of things that even our government has determined to be illegal for businesses to do.
Eminem is a white guy. My kids are white and they thought the halftime show was great. It is simply not about race.
The Super Bowl is a business venture - they follow the money. The performers pay for the placement at the Super Bowl halftime show. You will see performers who want to boost their brand by reaching out to an intended audience, nothing more.

Please read this article. It explains the selection process and the "compensation" factors.

You are full of it. The performers do not pay, nor are they paid for their performances. Of course it boost their brand, it should.

I know the performers are not paid but I don’t think they pay for the opportunity. What’s your source for that info?

Led Zeppelin was tame. The FUGS were bad. Funny... Politically incorrect, but very, very bad, in a frat boy gone hippie/yippie radical way.
Of course, my parents thought anything with an electric guitar in it was bad. So I blew $800 from a summer job on a stereo in 1974... It rattled the windows if I turned it up to 5. It was the ONLY thing that kept me sane through my 20s.
Not that I twitch. Much. Now.

The FUGS??...never heard of them.

Unless you were in a place like a college campus radio station (which couldn't legally play 90% of their music!) or an independent record store in a hip part of town, you probably wouldn't. Their records are rare. They offended several entire generations of middle Americans.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fugs explains their radical notoriety.
They were THE naughty band of the '60s. The FBI was on their case all the time.

I found some of their music on you tube. It hurt my ears.
