New iPhone “Portrait” feature.

I just updated the OS in all 3 of my Apple devices. While updating my wife’s, the last one, I noticed an interesting feature listed. When you use “Portrait” mode the background blurs (bokeh.) While I’m not a fancier of using my iPhone camera, that certainly is a plus In it’s favor.
I’d still rather use my cameras.

Nice! I recently found out that Zoom has a setting to blur the background, although I've never tried it.

That’s Zoom the Covid-19 communication app, right?

The blur background in zoom has been distracting to others in my experience.

The Portrait Ap is a nice feature when taking portrait photos. Give it a try.

Yeah, always jus' luv' the W.A. distortion of phone camera on portraiture (Not!). Fuzzin' out the background of unwanted crap is a nice feature though.....

Zoom also has the ability to replace the background with another image. I use it frequently. It extracts me from the video and overlays me against the background image. Works fairly well although it has some glitches. If I raise my hand to try to point to something in the background image my hand sometimes blinks in and out. Also someone moving in the background behind you will blink in and out. But if you don't move around a lot it works. I use it to show images that illustrate something that's under discussion. Or sometimes just nice scenes to improve the background.

In the lower part of the zoom window there's a menu "Stop Video". Click on the up-arrow just to the right of that and you get a dialog that includes "Choose Virtual Background". When you do that, you can select an image by clicking on the "+" button and navigating to the image you want. It will save a few images you can easily switch between (haven't tried to determine how many you can put in there). The "Blur" background selection is in the same section. The same section allows you to use filters (which I haven't tried yet).
