It is only $200 more than the initial E-M1 mkIII price when it first came out. What is the price of a FF or APS-C camera body that offers what the OM-1 offers (other that megapixels)?

This is a good point. OM Systems has produced a remarkable camera! I can't wait to see what Panasonic has put into the GH6. I'm sure it will be more video centric. I hope they took the same approach to AF as OM did.

Micro 4/3 just got a huge lease on life. So did OM.

I was hedging but if the AF is twice as accurate and 3x as fast I’m really tempted. I was gonna wait until I see what the GH6 looks like, but I’m assuming it’ll be better for video but not as good for stills. They’d really need to up their AF game to win me back.

the new OM-1 might be a better way to go if you are tied into Olympus. Very attractive camera and I wish them the best going forward. However, I have never like the look of their lenses. Back in the day, I shot with an OM-1 film camera, compact and the quietest SLR I ever shot with.

"Never liked the look of their lenses"? Have you seen the Image Resource review of the 12-100 f4 Pro IS lens? Have you seen their review of the 300 f4 Pro IS lens? Image Resource: "Given our experience with Olympus' previous Zuiko Pro lenses, we expected great results from this 300mm lens…but we weren't expecting them to be this good. Wide open, the lens is tack sharp across the entire frame. Looking at our blur charts, the blur characteristics are practically completely flat across the frame and extremely sharp corner-to-corner." Have you seen their review of the 100-400 f4.5 Pro IS 1.25X? The Olympus/OMDS lenses could look like cucumbers and I would buy them.

Personally, I think there is a GH6 in your future if it is anything close to what OMDS has brought out. It will probably surpass OMDS in video.

These cameras are supposedly using the same Sony sensor. If that is the case, then similar PDAF is a distinct possibility for the GH6.

The GH6 will be introduced on Monday evening, 2/21, at 8:00 PM EST. So we should know soon. No doubt, the top reviewers already have the thing, just as they had the OM-1, so we should see initial reviews right away.

I'm holding out until I can evaluate the GH5 II against the GH6 and the OM-1. My GH4 still works fine, but it's seven years old. My kid has a GH5, which is a big leap up from the GH4, so the GH6 should show a corresponding leap. But is it better enough than the GH5 II for the price difference? That's the several hundred dollar question.

Likely it will. But the OM-1 is more than I expected. It's tempting, especially for stills.

Panasonic's AF game will be on since both OMDS and Panasonic will be using the same chip. Why use just half the focusing abilities if you have a chip that does both.

Well, the OM-1 ( YES! not a half dozen letters and numbers appended! Just OM-1!) has been announced and it looks like a beauty! YES I would buy THIS ONE. https://www.getolympus.com/us/en/om-system-om-1.html

It's a handsome looking one too!

OM-1 was the name of the first small film camera Olympus made in 1972, 50 years ago,

I think a lot of 4/3 users are waiting to see what the Panasonic GH6 is capable of. I'm sure it will match or beat the OM-1 on the video side, less sure on the still side. I don't shoot much video, just emailing video clips of the grandkids, so the OM-1 looks to be a better match for me.

I’m about to invest in my next camera setup to replace my Canon T2i. I’m not attached to the lenses which are the old 17-55 and 55/250 kit lenses that probably came with it, older 1998? Tokina EF 80-400mm and also really old Tamron EF 70-200? Lens.

So it’s a new start. Check out my portfolio to see the types of photos I like to shoot: closeup flowers, landscape (prefer details), moon and astro, animals, birds, and wanting to do more portraits.

Do any of have the Olympus and lenses? Are you happy or do you wish you went with the new Canon R6 or other camera?

I’m very close to making a purchase so your personal experience means a lot to me.

I just watched the OM-1 launch video and wish I hadn't bought my E-M1 mkIII to go with my E-M1 mkII. For the few hundred dollars more, I would have the flagship professional camera. Unless you do videos, I would put my pre-order in now and get the extra battery and three additional years of warranty (4 total). If you do videos, you might want to wait for the Panasonic release on the 27th. OMDS did up their video game but it will be interesting to see how it compares with the Panasonic GH6. Yes, you can get a great deal on a great camera like the E-M1 mkIII. But for $500 more, you can get the new OM-1 with all the bells and whistles you could want. Plus it still has the Super Control Panel along with a new easier ergonomical scroll menu. Also, the weatherproofing has been made even better (which has never been an issue so far). The new OM-1, released 50 years to the day as the film OM-1, is a beast of a camera in the market.

The good news is that the OM-1 pre-order date with the extra battery and three extra years of warranty goes to March 3rd. This will allow people to choose between both the OM-1 and GH6. For 4/3rds photographers, they are all in hog heaven.

I’ll be ordering the new OM-1 with lens. Maybe also the new longer lens to complete the set from the beginning.

The Oly/OM lenses are mostly very good to excellent. The old 12-40mm f/2.8 was excellent, and the new one takes it a step beyond. You won't be disappointed.

The links above should help you understand what is available.

If you have any Canon EF or EF-S glass, look at the MetaBones SpeedBoosters. They are popular among the Panasonic-using filmmakers. Jordan Drake at DPReview uses one with the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8.

Thanks for that. I had considered MetaBones and Commlite adapters but I’m ready to dive in to all new and current technology.

Yeah, I gave my old Canon FD and Nikkor AI SLR lenses to my son, along with some Fotodiox adapters, to use on his GH4. I'll stick to modern Panasonic Lumix glass. It gives me full functionality.
