I always preferred serif fonts and disliked fancy fonts. In a sans serif font a vertical line could be a one, a lower case L, or a solidus (a punctuation mark).
I moved to Massachusetts in ‘82. Thanksgiving was near Philadelphia every other year and Christmas was near Philadelphia every year, so we spent a lot of time on the road. On one stretch of road there was a motel. The name was in a fancy font and we were traveling fairly fast so we couldn’t really read the name. For many years we thought of it as the “Ragweed Motel”.
Eventually we were able to determine that it was the “Redwood Motel”.
Fancy fonts can be counterproductive.
Heights make me dizzy so I won't look.
