Well done. I miss her too, and still play her music often.

Janice appeared on the old Dick Cavett late night show and talked about a high school reunion that she planned on attending in Texas. Definitely worth watching for JJ fans. Her personality really comes through.

Too bad; they were icons in the music era of the time & still fondly remembered many years later.

I love her rendition of "Bobbi McGee"

Yes indeed! I first heard her (albums) when I was in VietNam. Big Brother and the Holding Company will always be one of those groups which also includes Jefferson Airplane and The Doors that evokes memories of that surreal experience.

Who are Janis and Jimi? I listened to Joan Baez, and really liked her voice - but not her politics. Ian and Sylvia (and many others) were very good, also.

Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix

It always amazed me how much soul one little human could produce. "Free Bird" by Skynyrd was like that for me too.

And a lot of other things too. I probably should have used this one for the tribute https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkV0h-4a8R8 by Joan Biaz. Janis like Jimi and others were with us for too short a time.

Although for some artists, it is better to flame out in a blaze than slowly dim and flicker out.

Thanks for bringing back a memory of a powerful singer. At the time, there was no one better.

I used to go to the Monterey Jazz festival and saw Janis there, in I believe, 1967. She made an appearance with Big Brother and the Holding Company but she was so powerful I don't remember anything about them. The place was just moving to her singing. I really enjoyed how powerfully she sang. I saw her on Saturday and I heard she also performed on Sunday. I had to drive myself and my girl, at the time, back to Manhattan Beach in So. CA.
She knocked the socks off of the audience.

I keep remembering the event as the Monterey Jazz festival but Wikipedia keeps referring to it as the Monterey pop festival?? Confusing to me as maybe my memory isn't the greatest anymore!
Anyway, everybody I spoke to, was talking about how she livened up the normal jazz offerings.
Thanks for bringing back a memory of a powerful si... (show quote)

Thanks for commenting. It was always the Jazz Festival when I lived in Santa Cruz County. I saw Joan Biaz there for the first time. Way too many good performers to recount
