I want to buy a book on landscape photography. What is the best book in your opinion? Who are the world class landscape photographers?

I'm not clear on your request. Do you want instructional books, or examples? Scott Kelby has some great instructional books. For the coffee table viewer, I have books by Ansel Adams, and one of my favorites, Chasing Light: An Exploration of the American Landscape, by the late Frank Lee Ruggles.

One book recommendation (they getn expensive):
Landscape as Photograph Paperback – July 1, 1987
by Estelle Jussim (Author), Elizabeth Lindquist-Cock (Author)
Plenty of examples but heavy on the B&W. No shortage of great landscape photographers.

Better yet, the internet: youtube, rumbl, photography magazines, "Learn Photography", "Photography Life", etc.

Also, brush up on composition and all the technical aspects of camera operation. Then go out and figure out what, exactly, you have in mind to photograph. Then do it over and over again.

I don't think that landscape technique can be learned from a book, other than to look at and analyze landscape photography examples that you like and try to emulate them. The difficulty is what to look at/for. Even better yet, go to a museum that has fine art landscapes from the masters. Ask yourself what draws you to a particular image - the balance of light and shadow? Use of color? Elements and forms and how they work together? What was the artist trying to help you see? How successful was he/she? How would you handle the scene with a camera? Do the same for photography.

If you need printed media a good library and librarian can be your best friends.

The all-time classic book on composition for landscape images is Edgar Payne's Composition of Outdoor Paintings. The principles and examples in the book are clear and understandable and are equally pertinent to photography.

https://amazon.com/Composition-Outdoor-Painting-Edgar-Payne/dp/0939370115/ref=sr_1_2?crid=21H1UNJ2MTRSE&keywords=edgar+payne+composition+for+landscape&qid=1643734860&sprefix=composition+for+landscape%2Caps%2C96&sr=8-2

I also found Rob Sheppard's book very clear and useful as a comprehensive guide to art and technique:

https://amazon.com/Landscape-Photography-Snapshots-Great-Shots-dp-032182377X/dp/032182377X/ref=mt_other?_encoding=UTF8&me=&qid=

and for inspiration the late Galen Rowell's masterpiece Mountain Light:

https://amazon.com/gp/product/1578051924/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

But I have also to agree with Gene -- there is no substitute for looking at and internalizing great images.

Google Freeman Patterson. He has numerous photo books and if I could have books from only one source on photography, it would be him.

I think you have to decide how you like to see landscapes. Cany from Moab has very strong foregrounds. Others care more about is in the middle. I think good composition lets me like the photo even it is weak in other areas that I like.

You could start with the A.Adams work and book series. After Adams, I have been very impressed/influenced by the work and books by David Muench. You could also study Peter Lik's work - maybe the most monetarily successful photographer of our/all time ?
