Turn the dial on the top of the camera to βCHβ
also you need a fast card and may need the battery grip pack

No grip required. Just set it to ch. If you are not familiar with the d500 Steve at Backcountry Gallery has a great book on the Nikon focus system. Also metering but I suggest reading the focus book. If you are going to shoot fast moving objects or wildlife it is VERY HELPFUL.
I stand corrected it has been awhile since i used mine

There's one more step. Go to the Custom Setting Menu, go to "d Shooting/display", then "a1 mode shooting speed". There you can set the FPS to anywhere from 1 to 9.
Hope this helps.

I know that the 10 fps issue has been solved. Here's a tip for the D500. The video record button to the left and behind the shutter release button can be re-programmed to start Mode. Mode is in the group of four buttons on the top left of the camera but it's much more convenient to have it next the the shutter button. You can switch between Manual, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority, and Program mode much faster.
