For those of you that have and use the tap-in console do you think it is worth the expense. Has it improved your photos. And is it hard to use.

I will be using on a Nikon D7200 and the Tamron 18-400 lens

Thanks for any advice you can give to me.

Chuck

I bought one when I bought my Tamrom
N 150-600 never used it yet. Wasn't expensive.
Tamron will fine tune your lens to your camera one time for free

There turn around times aren't that bad. I would take sample photos at different f stops and distance to see how fine tuned your len is

Bought one with my 18-400. The lens didn't need fine tuning, but it was nice to increase the "throw" of the focusing ring allowing better manual focusing. I haven't checked for firmware updates for a while.

The TAP-in console is not absolutely necessary, but is a useful accessory. Firmware updates are few and far between, and most lenses should not require tuning anyway. BUT, if you do want to update the firmware on a newly purchased lens, or tweak the focus, go ahead and get it. It is extremely easy to use as long as you have a computer with a USB socket.

Most of the new Tamron lenses for Sony E can be updated directly on the camera.

I have used the tap in on the 18-400 , 24-70 G2 and 70-200 G2. Updated firmware ez and did minor adjustments to the focus micro adjustments of each lens. These adjustments were not game changing but the tap in does allow focus adjust at several focal lengths within the lens itself and not just near and far of a cameras micro adjustments. Zoom lens have a hard time staying constant throughout their full range and the tap in allows you to customize your lens for better overall results. On my 18-400 I noticed that the longer ranges were a tad out and with a little time and effort I was able to adjust my lens to what I feel was better and I’m happy with it. If you are looking for a way to fine tune your Tamron lens the tap in is the way to go...I love mine but really only use it now to check every year or so to see if the settings may have changed with use and travel

I have the Sigma version and I have used it a few times for firmware upgrades. It saves the time and shipping cost of that. For what they cost, sometimes provided free with a lens purchase, I believe they are well worth the cost. Best of luck.

Since it was included free as a promotion, I got one with my 150 -600 G2. However, when using this lens on a tripod, I use live view. This uses the sensor for focusing rather than the device that is part of the viewfinder path. This pretty much eliminates the focusing error that the "calibration" procedure corrects (I think, correct me if I'm wrong), so I haven't used the dock.

I used it to update firmware to use Tamron lens on Nikon Z6. Very easy to use. I think you can fine tune the lens, but I haven't tried that.

Chuck, I've got a D7100 and the Tamron 18-400 with the tap-in console. Fine tuning the lens to my D7100 was a time consuming endeavor. If I remember correctly, you fine tune it for 7 focal lengths, and each of those for 3 aperture settings, for a total of 21 separate corrections. An involved process, to be sure, but worthwhile. The console can also be used to update the firmware on supported lenses, if needed.

I bought the Tamron 18-400 lens to use with my Canon cameras. I was perfectly happy with it so glad I didn't buy the tap-in console.
