The bald eagle population here around Lock and Dam 15 on the Mississippi has picked up with the cold snap. The angle of the sun isn’t great but sometimes you can catch them with good light.
The one photo where the eagle is cut off flew 15 feet away from me. Since I was shooting with 700 mm, (500 with 1.4x) I had no chance of getting entire bird in shot. I’m actually amazed I got anything at all.
I put the goose in to show it was COLD!

#2 and the cropped #3 show you don't need the entire bird to get a masterful BIF shot! In fact, the cropped version emphasizes the single-minded stare of the bird to the exclusion of pretty much everything else - just like what is likely going through the mind of a raptor on the hunt. Just magnificent in its emphasis on the eyes and expression!

Thanks for looking and commenting. I was surprised how sharp it turned out so I thought I would try to really crop in. After cropping I applied Topaz Sharpen AI.

Beautiful set! Unusual ice on that poor duck.
