I'm just curious why they wouldn't allow flashes but flashlights are OK. Is a micro second of a flash more damaging to the cave than having a bright light on while spelunking?

I will be going into a cave to photograph rock art. Flashes are not permitted, but flashlights are. Do you know of a flashlight that puts out roughly 360 degrees of white light? I have the usual LED flashlights that put out a beam.

I'd get a headlamp rather than a hand-held flashlight. That way you put the light wherever your head turns. You could even conceivably attach it to a tripod, monopod etc. There are many good ones available, some offering both spot and flood modes and even different colors of light. For search and rescue I use a Black Diamond Storm but there are many other good models. REI has lots of them.

I would try a roadside emergency LED flashlight with at least 1500 lumens brightness. Of course, this will be a very white light.

I have used a ROK7 LED Headlamp and it works great.

I thank all of you for your thoughtful responses with solutions, many of which I had not thought of. I believe a LED cube light that attaches to the hotshoe will work well. I did not know they existed. Because the light will be directional to the subject I'm shooting (rock art), the light does not have to shine 360 degrees, which would be the case if the lighting device had to sit on the ground. It also allows both hands to be free to operate the camera. There are places where I will be lying on my back shooting rock art on low ceilings.

One other consideration, the LumeCube (and the Litra I believe) have very small batteries. It doesn't appear they can be powered by an external power source (charged but not powered). You might want to consider something like the LumeCube panel mini. That way you could take a small power bank with you and power it for hours even if internal battery runs down. Best of luck!

Check out https://www.milwaukeetool.com/Products/Lighting

You can find their lights at Home Depot.

I shot Mamoth Cave last spring with my Sony RX100MV and then converted many to B&W .

I have a flashlight called Cyclops. It brags 18 million candlepower. It's bulky but it will light up the world. It's rechargeable so you don't have to spend your next paycheck on batteries.
