I wanted to buy a CD player but was completely perplexed by one model's promotional sign. So I called the sales clerk over and asked, "What does 'hybrid pulse D/A converter' mean?"

He said, "That means that this machine will read the digital information that is encoded on CDs and convert it into an audio signal."

"In other words," I said, "this CD player plays CDs."

"Exactly."

D/A converter converts digital signal to Analogue sound. CD player is awesome technology we take it for granted but there's a lot going on. Unlike previous sound recordings like LP and even magnetic tape which are quite simple in comparison.

They'd be getting messages from gear nerds everywhere asking if they use a Hybrid Pulse D/A Converter.

For a CD player I wouldn't care about the type of D/A converter. My ears are not golden and they all sound good to me. The problem I have with CD player that the mechanism to move the disc in and out and spin it goes bad. If I pay extra money for a CD player it should have very good mechanism.

I thought to check for this feature, and a comment on a discussion thread explained:

"Sony’s engineers for the "Extremely high Standard" (ES) series created other decisive factors for excellent sound quality: the Current Pulse D/A Converter and R-Core Transformer. Unlike standard D/A converters, the new Current Pulse D/A Converter does not use a voltage-pulse output. Instead it operates with current-pulse output for constant signal quality. Changes in voltage amplitude (e.g. from mains fluctuations) are eliminated and harmonic distortion is minimised. The R-Core Transformer on the other hand ensures a stable voltage supply independent of load."

Like vinyl records, audio tape players and 8-track players, CDs are on the way out being displaced by MP-3 players. I load music, stories, Car Talk podcasts, etc. on USB Flash Drives since my car has several USB ports and will play them through the radio.

That is stating the same thing. You can't change Ohm's law. If there is a change in voltage amplitude there will be an opposite change in the current amplitude.
