To TV or Monitor

Currently my desktop computer monitor is a 40” Samsung TV HD connecting to my NVIDIA video card. The computer is my build using full retail components. Can you help with my leadership problem?

The Samsung is not bright enough for my >70 eyesight and I have been anxious to spend some money for a replacement with 4K+, IPA, Full sync, etc. for my modest editing of. NEF from my D850 amateur photos.

When I am granted time from chores, playing video games once again has an appeal. I have learned that Samsung units are not compatible with NVIDIA video cards that may be demonstrated in Helicon Focus with a warning that the video drivers are not compatible.

My hang-up is that I have locked on to 40” as the minimum size. But 50” is a bit too big. And yes I could move a BenQ 32” closer to my nose. It has all the specs but the 32” come loaded with super sound systems that are not needed – I got one – and they are very expensive. And, too small requiring many zooms to edit.

Any ideas?

I have been pleased with the LG “34UM67-P”, purchased in 2015. If it should go out I may seek something between 34 and 38”... larger than that just takes up too much space. I had found Television type monitors to be unacceptable... at least to view close up.

My 55 in Samsung works great with my Nvidia rtx2070 super. I don't understand. Turn up the brightness on your tv or change the picture mode to get the results you want.

Rather than one large display, how about 2 (or 3) smaller ones? After using multiple monitors, I couldn’t live with a single screen, no matter how large.

Right, but then I am still zooming instead of just looking. Typically I only have one or two items loaded.

Same here. I have a 40 inch TV and two 28 inch 1920x1200 monitors on my main system. It's hard to adjust to a single 23 inch on an all in one HP system.

I've used several regular wide screen monitors over the past 20 years. When the last expensive LG 32" (or 34", I forget) HD screen died the day after the warranty expired, we drive over to wallyworld during their pre-Christmas sale, and bought a TCL 50" 4K/HDR model for about $300, peanuts compared to what I had been contemplating as a replacement for the LG. After a while I was impressed enough, that when we replaced our Samsung 55" 4K/HDR curved screen TV with a new Samsung 65" curved screen model last year (about $600 on sale, delivered by Amz), the 55" Samsung went immediately into full time photo editing service. It's my main video/music editing screen, though from time to time I throw photos up to the 65" for comparison. The Samsung blows all of the other 'normal' 4K/HD computer monitors away IMO. I have no fond memories of paying for the old monster CRTs during the 90s and early 2000s. Sitting 4 or 5 feet away from the screen, with several configs available to displays images is easier on my arthritis, no more scrunching over a desk. The TCL was re-tasked for mixing/mastering 32 channel music. Happy New Year and happy editing.

I agree with this idea. I am a retired land surveyor and most of my work in the latter years was drawing maps. Two screens is the way to go if you have the space.

Lots easier on your neck (especially if you wear glasses) and no issues with small text size.
