It's common to wear masks like this where indoor masking is mandated and outdoor masking is not. It's probably better than taking it off and sticking it in your purse or pocket. And you're right, masks don't work.

John, I know that you are sort of an authority on this subject, the transmission of microbes, bacteria, virus etc. to available hosts.
Just how much of the COVID virus would one need to be exposed to in order to become infected? In layman's terms if you please.
I ask this because let's face it, most of the mask wearing public that dons the mask is not wearing it with the nose strip formed to their face which puts those sorts of masks (the blue ones) down to 60% or lower filtering. There's a point at which wearing any mask becomes the same as no mask at all when it comes to prevent infection or transmission.
Also, is COVID also transmitted through the eyes? That is to say, someone with COVID coughs and even though you are masked to the 9's it can still infect you through the eyes?

If you are looking for love in all the wrong places, one could suppose that the eyes would be in danger.

I have no firsthand knowledge, but I did find this (page 2 of the article):
https://www.webmd.com/lung/news/20201105/dose-of-coronavirus-timing-matters-for-infection#2To estimate probability that a droplet would contain at least one virus particle, Basu used a study on the amount of virus in the sputum and mucus of COVID-19 patients and accounted for dehydration. He conservatively estimated about 300 virus particles as the threshold for infection. Typically, an inhaled viral infection requires 1,950 to 3,000 virus particles.
"The fact that the number of virus particles needed to launch the infection is in the range of hundreds is very remarkable, and shows how contagious this particular virus is," Basu said.
The results from the droplet inhalation modeling were screened by the scientific team at medRxiv. The corresponding research manuscript is undergoing peer review at the journal PLOS One.And here is a link on getting infection via the eyes (excerpt below):
https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanmic/article/PIIS2666-5247(21)00040-9/fulltext
Remarkably, a year after the COVID-19 outbreak, we remain ineffectual against widespread community infection. Perhaps, something major is missing in our approach?
The importance of aerosols versus droplets1 is debated—most viral transmission appears to be via virus-laden droplets, with the greatest risk in crowded, inadequately ventilated environments. Proximity to those infected poses the greatest risk. Currently, the presumed major viral invasion modalities involve inhalation or hand contamination of mucosal surfaces, despite studies to the contrary from a century ago2 showing the importance of eyes as an influenza infection route. Ocular surface droplet deposition is greatly underappreciated as a probable, frequent route for SARS-CoV-2 transmission.

The trouble is that many people don't bother pulling it back up to where it belongs. And of course, the more you handle the outside of the mask the greater your risk of contaminating yourself.
As for the the title of the thread, I am sure you know that I was being cynical.

Don't expect much return on irony in this wingding echo chamber.
Incredible that with all of the medical not political information available morons still refuse to believe the experts. Strange. No offence intended.

John I am in full agreement with you. I live in one of the most Liberal cities in Southern California. Yet I see exactly this same thing every time I leave the house. Thanks for making my point that Conservatives still get blamed for what Liberals are doing.

With over a year and a half since the pandemic began why hasn't the CDC at least launched a test on the effectiveness of masks????? What are we paying these people for?

Why don't you offer to be a test subject in the control group? You know, the one where you get exposed to roomful of virus but you don't get to wear a mask... because you don't believe they work anyway.
