That's a "wow" shot! PBS/Nova has run a few times a documentary on hummingbirds that shows them to be both territorial and very aggressive in defending their territory. The footage showed pretty intensive aerial combat engagements -- but didn't show this level of outcome. Nicely done!

I don't know where you are, but where I am, in Georgia, USA, there was an epidemic of eye infections last summer. I quit feeding because I was advised that this conjuctivitis can spread through contact with feeders. I have resumed feeding, and now have not seen an infected bird for several months. I don't know if they heal or becomes fatal.

I have not heard of that up here in Iowa.
