I can identify with the tremors npsranger. I am 77 years old and I went to a Neurologist, and had the full battery of tests. The Neurologist told me to take a daily B12 pill and to get B12 only. Tremors are better. I hold my camera in close to my chest for more support. B12 can be a problem for some people due to dosage so check with your doctor to see if this will help.

Lamiaceae, I will try your suggestions when I go out photographing birds again to control the tremors. The Neurologist told me that as we age tremors can me a part of aging.

Select a camera with remote wireless operation capabilities and place it on a sturdy tripod. Use a cellphone, or better yet a tablet, for operating the camera. I have Parkinson's Disease and that is my standard outfit.

1. Tripod
2. Remote Shutter Release [And lock up Mirror if your camera has one]

I had the same problem. I had deep brain stimulation surgery. it was an overnight stay at the hospital. The surgeons insert a probe into your brain and a control unit into your chest. You turn it on each morning and off in the evening. The batteries last 5 years before another surgery is required to change the batteries. Once you turn it on, the hand tremors cease completely. It is a miracle cure but does take some time to go through the process. It is far better than drugs. I had it about seven years ago and it was a miracle cure. Ask your physician to refer you to a brain surgeon.

A friend of mine had this too. He could not hold a glass of water, difficult to use a keyboard, forget trying to text! He got about 80% improvement, I think. He takes great pix - he posts here, talk to a neurologist about it for an appropriate referral.

Try using a line-steady (Strong cord with a stick tied to the end on which you can place a foot - other end with a screw to attach to your camera's tripod bush. Adjust cord length to eye level or monitor level, and pull upwards firmly. Keep IBIS or OIS switched on. Good luck and hope this helps.

I agree with Delderby. that is what I was going to suggest. This is a tripod that rolls up and fits in your pocket so it goes with you with ease and it is always at hand. get a short 1/4 20 bolt and some sturdy string. You can just stand on the string hanging down a first to find the length. Then tie the end on something you can stand on and wind the string up on to stow it. Your larger arm mussels used in pulling upward will dominate and steady your shot, Best of luck.

Mine was done at UCLA 3-1/2 years ago and it was life changing. Nothing was 100% but my situation improved about 90-95%. I still use a tripod for long lenses with a Gimbal head.

tripod and a release cable will take care of that and will give better pix too.

A long time ago I saw this video from JoeMcNally, using your shoulder. It works...

Thank you topcat for the reference to Joe McNally video on shoulder movements. I will try some of these hand placements on my camera. Enjoyed the sense of humor of Joe McNally.
