Can a Nikon D500 use lenses with the "screw type" focus motor in the lens, e.g., Nikkor AF D 85mm f1.8?

Can't tell from Nikon's site if the D500 is capable of focusing lenses which have their own focus motor such as the example noted in the title of this thread.
Thanks for your help.

Like the D7xxx series, the D500 will drive the screw drive AF system of the older lenses (motor is in the camera), opening up to a plethora of great old lenses, and will also electronically couple to more modern lenses with their own internal focus motor like the AF-S and AF-P lenses, and 3rd party lenses. These Nikon body types will work with a huge array of lenses.....should work well with the lens you mention. Have fun!! The D3xxx and D5xxx series do not have screw drive AF capability. Hope this helps!

Olemikey, Thank you for your help. Makes choices easier. I have a D5600 and know is does not have a focus motor. Glad to learn that the D500 does.

Glad to help, the D500 is another I want to pick up one day. The D5600 is a fine camera, just doesn't support the older screw drive stuff.

One benefit that I didn't list in my reply to your other post is that the D500 is fully compatible with more Nikkor lenses (DX & FX) than any other Nikon DSLR. As noted already here, that require a focus motor in the camera as well as those that have their own motor. With current firmware, it is also compatible with the newest E and P lenses.

Rockwell includes compatibility info, as do Nikon USA and Lensora.

The AF D 85mm f1.8 does NOT have a focus motor, so it requires a body that has the screw drive - which the D500 has. The D500 (and other bodies with the internal focus drive, aka screw type) is generally compatible with all lenses that have their own internal motors, btw.

The d7100 and d7200 also have an internal focus motor in case you don't want to step up to the d500. I have had all three and LOVE my D5oo

D850, D750, and D500s may all use screw drive lenses. Cameras that will not drive a screw drive lens are the Mirrorless Z cameras.

Oh, my.
I have had my heart set on a (new) D5600.
Hopefully, I can find a good camera dealer that has the Nikon's in their store, (instead of having to mail order), so that I can have hands-on, to see how efficient that model is.

It's hard to part with cameras that are malfunctioning, and give them away to a Thrift Store.
But...if the broken cameras are just sitting in a camera bag, gathering dust, I suppose that's ow it goes.

I just gave an old Nikon (20 years old) to the local thrift store. Hopefully, someone will gobble it up for parts or figure out why (it doesn't work ) any more.

Same with my old Canon 30 year old, (SLRs), Don't want to part with them, but (who uses real film, anymore)?

Merry Christmas
