How about when you want to sign up for a 30 day free trial period, and they want your credit card number first.

Must agree. I don't want my name or email addy given freely for the ability to read a message. And, I don't need to make a new entry in my password manager for everyone that asks for a 'user name' and password. Will I really, really (?) want to visit this site regularly in the future? Based, upon experience, I doubt it.
Same here. I don't give my email address (I give my wife's), and I won't use flicker. ..
