Can any of you start Windows without a password or PIN? I followed the directions yesterday to eliminate the PIN. It suggested that I add a P/W. I declined. When I started it today, it wanted a P/W. I have all my passwords on my computer, so I had to do a reset after receiving a code on my phone.
Is it possible to start a Windows machine without entering a security code?
EDIT: I did this just now. Yesterday, I followed a different set of directions. I'm not going to restart now, but I'll let you know if it works.
How to remove login password from Windows 10
Type netplwiz in the Start menu search bar, then click the top result to run the command.
Uncheck the tick from the box next to Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer and hit Apply.
Enter the username and password, then re-enter the password.
We have our three boxes (two Win 7 and one Win 10) purposely set up to require a PW upon startup.
Prevents any unauthorized use.
No biggie.

Unless someone breaks into our house, there will be no unauthorized use. My son and I can use any computer in the house.

Btw, I’ll have to check, but I believe there is both a PW to start Windows and also an option to require a PW when awakening windows from a sleep or hibernation state. It’s the same PW, but you can choose not to require one on “wakening” while still requiring one to start Windows.

That's the way Win 7 works, I have it set for both.
I have never set a password for my computers. Turn it on and Windows starts running.
I don't have a problem entering a four digit number to start Windows and I would be reluctant to do Jerry's fix for fear it would screw things up like it did with Jerry.
There is also software you can purchase to bypass passwords and reset it, bought it a couple yrs ago and used it on my daughters computer on which she had forgotten her password. Worked like a charm, If I find the disk, I'll let you know what it is that I used.
VICTORY! After trying many times over several months, I was able to eliminate the need for a password or PIN on a cold start. If it starts from hibernation, it starts right up, but from a cold start, I always had to enter something. Yesterday, I found a different set of directions. Following them eliminated delays in starting. I knew it was possible because my laptop doesn't require a password.

I think that's one of my (many) character quirks. I want what I want, and I want the computer to start without entering security words or numbers. Now I'm more or less happy. : )

We have a friend who, years ago, was head of security for AT&T. He said that he had computer hacker personnel who could remotely START a computer, and do all sorts or things like turn the screen upside down, and finally shut the computer off.
So, no one has to break into your house to get at you computer.

Thank goodness! I hate it when people break into my house.

I have never had a security code or a password on windows 10 or Windows 7 or Windows XP or any computer. How do you run into all of these problems?
