I’m curious what the Ugly Hogs consider the pros and cons of a lens like this for an everyday, walk-about lens (in addition to the usual macro uses). Some specs: f/2.8 to 22; minimum focus distance 0.53 ft.; 260 g; currently on sale $599.95.

Back in the day a 50mm lens usually came with the camera. Most people felt 50mm was close to actual vision. Opinions differ but 50mm is still popular. It has been know to perform plastic surgery on people's noses, but caution and experience can eliminate that flaw. Your inclusion of the minimum focus distance shows a knowledge of that "nose" problem. Use it in good health and enjoy every image. When your comfort level allows please share some of your results.

Buy it. Very low risk.

Despite the “anti-55-macro” campaign, I have several. The OP is asking about a “walking around” lens. “Short” macros are great for that.

Complaints about the 55 macro working distance are factual, but generally just misleading. If macro working distance is really a concern, you want a 200mm.

It is a very good lens and you have a macro when needed.

Had doubts it would work but I used mine to get a shot of the insides of a lamp. Lots of fun.
