Saw this fellow from my car so I stopped to get a better look at him, he decided he wanted a better look at me so he swam to within 15 ft and just sat there and stared. Started to feel a little creepy after awhile so I left.

Lucky you not having been swallowed!
That fellow is the definition of "Single-Minded CREEPY"
Great Shot!!!
Nice shot.
Careful! They are MUCH faster than one would think!
Really like the way you framed the image with negative space, fully committing to the gator alone - great impact!
He was deciding whether or not you would taste good.

Nice!! Very glad you weren't on the menu for his Christmas dinner.

Alligators are very curious reptiles. Believe me, they do not attack human beings as many believe unless you are near to their newborns or do something they interpret as a potential harm to them. In the Everglades National Park where they are plentiful I have not heard of any attack and during these winter months tourists from other countries make the mistake of coming too close to them against the rangers advise. There are signs all over the park warning visitors to keep at least 15 feet from them.
I am sure you all remember a few years ago at Disney World here in Florida that a child was attacked and killed near dusk. Small children near a pond can be attacked, to them they are prey.
Something else, they are territorial. They tend to be aggressive toward other alligators invading their territory. I have been fishing in the park and have been surrounded by them but none of them bothered me.
My best advise is to keep your distance and do not interfere with what they are doing.
Nice shot. He was probably contemplating how you would taste.
I think he was hoping and waiting for you to test the water with your toe.
