Totally hits home for me; where I work (big box outdoor retail), the older you are the worse you get treated especially by managers who are young enough to be my kids!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!! And they are critical of my attitude; look in the mirror and know why my attitude is what it is!!!

I remember when I turned 16 in Traverse City, Michigan and started looking for a real summer job. I don't remember how many times i was told ,,,,"Sorry, you don't have any work experience". I had references from people that I had done lawn and garden care for; however,.... how do you get work experience if no one will give you any? This was well before the fast food jobs became available. Usuall ended up picking cherries at $.40/ hour with a $.10/ hour bonus if I stayed all season.

Exactly right. Anyone who hasn’t experienced age discrimination in the workplace just isn’t much past 50. I fought it for the last 20 years of my career - not from coworkers or clients/customers, but from newly minted 30 year old managers.
