how many people use a color passport ?
I have to share news of my ignorance. What is a color passport?
calibrate the colors in your camera , like a wheel alignment in your car . On the flip side don't think it has to be done if you don't shoot thousands of frames a week !

I do when it matters. I don't most of the time. Auto white balance is ok for those times. But it is always in my camera bag or my pocket.

It has nothing to do with camera color calibration. It creates a color profile for the lighting conditions - which, during an event where one is shooting with available light, can change multiple times. I visited a Botanical Gardens. There was an outside display, and many inside displays - some lit with skylight, others with electric light, and yet others with a mix of skylight and electric. I think I did 6 or 7 profiles that day.
It is not a "set it and forget it" thing.
I'm guessing you've never used one. This may help you understand how it works and when it can be used.

I occasionally use the forerunner, a Macbeth color chart. I use this when I need precise colors in the final processed photograph.
My two main concerns with any photograph are primarily hue contamination and secondarily white balance.

I almost always take a shot of a grayscale reference (3 patch white, black, 18% gray), or a color passport, which also has a grayscale in it under ambient light. It helps me set exposure during the shoot and helps with exposure and white balance in Post. If pressed for time, I'll just take a shot of the palm of my hand.
If you go to youtube and search for
color passport checker
you'll find a plethora of videos explaining how, why, and why not use of this product.

The WB setting I use in my cameras is custom to each one. I need to adjust color in processing, initially in ACR and then final touches in Ps to compensate for both color and hue contamination.

As I don't do commercial product photography where precise color rendition is important, I don't really have a need for a color passport. During processing I simply adjust color to my liking, to what I feel works best for the image.
Only once , probably will play/experiment with it a little more in the future.
