Anyone else try this new version?

If you have a basic Adobe subscription you can have a Photoshop version in your Chrome or Edge browser. It is offered as a 'beta' so not complete yet. But it works!

Try photoshop(dot)adobe(dot)com/new

What would be the purpose of having Photoshop on a browser?

Because Adobe can for the creative professionals that earn a living and pay to have the tools needed.

It is not what a typical senior (like me) does with his photos, but some people work in teams and collaborate with clients.

"Adobe extends Photoshop to the web for sharing, reviewing, and light editing of Photoshop cloud documents (.psdc). Collaborators can open and view your work in the browser, provide feedback, and make basic edits without downloading the app."

If I understand it right, it is going to become an "Open on the web" choice in the real Photoshop so your team/boss/clients can join creative efforts.

Since I have the subscription, I really don't see the point...

Then, too, Safari and FireFox are my browsers of choice. You couldn't pay me enough to use Chrome... Chrome is a world of hurt on a Mac.

I've never tried Edge, which is now a Chromium-based browser that incorporates the same WebKit open source elements as Safari. So I have no real incentive to go there.

You have to have the subscription to use it Bill. The point of it may be about teamwork and collaboration. Adobe has enough customers that some portion of them work together on projects. The old way would be like the creatives in an advertising agency meeting in the conference room all looking at Photoshop on a big screen so they can argue about what sliders to move. This may be the online version.

Yeah, I can see that aspect. But how do I know my monitor and her monitor are calibrated to look the same?

That could certainly be a problem, especially if the she is the customer! It might not matter. If she says the highlights are too bright, she is right and you just might fix it.

Yeah, but then her offset printing vendor would catch hell! Placating an innocently ignorant customer is a form of disrespect.

Sometimes, I educate the client, gently, rather than accept that they are always right. It's the difference between a seller-customer relationship and a deeper, consultative, seller-client relationship. I want to be the go to for my clients' needs (ones I can solve), because they trust my advice.

My photography and videography life is easier. I'm the shooter, editor, printer, client and critic.

I'm reinventing my past life with a drone so that I can reminisce better. I'm replacing my Commercial Single Engine Land and See with a Commercial, Part 107 ticket.

Sounds like a "catch 22 situation ." I agree with your solution.

My guess is that using PS online will require a good internet connection to work well. It is another tool in Adobe's tool kit.

It is quite obvious that Adobe has and is building a creative eco system for the creative world. Photography is just one small corner of that system. LR is already available on all platforms including the web. The desktop versions are also integrated with the web and web versions.

Personally I prefer the desktop software, but I do use LR online for sharing and sometimes editing pictures that I take with the LR camera on my phone that shoots in raw and downloads the pictures to my computer automatically and backs up to the cloud.

The downside of the Adobe ecosystem is that it requires using Adobe's storage system, which if not managed carefully could be expensive. It can be managed. Topic for a different thread.
