Interesting, the use of the term Cowabunga. Everyone thinks it originated with the TV comic show but it actually was much older than that. It first appeared in a joke that made the rounds about 1960 whci ran: A politician in a cattle-raising state is making a re-election speech at a convention of bull breeders. Every time he made a point the crown would yell "Cowabunga!". When he finished, stepped down from the platform, and was walking across the show ring a breeder with him said "Watch out that you don't step n the cowabunga."

Interesting, the use of the term Cowabunga. Everyo... (show quote)

Actually, it is older than that! The exclamation "Cowabunga" was often used on the Howdy Doody show in the early 50's by one of the two "Indian" chiefs who appeared on the show from time to time: Chief Featherman or Thunderthud of the Tinka Tonka tribe. I remember that the actor playing Thunderthud had a mustache, totally out of character for a supposedly Native American.
