In a file photos may be in a list form, they will be numerical icons with some suffix, typically JPEG. eXAMPLE: numerical photo exposure list such as 00794.jpg Click in the free margin space in the file and go to VIEW and select EXTRA LARGE ICONS. Thumbnail views should result.

You can buy a stand-alone phot viewer, you can probably see them on your TV if it has a USB input slot; or you can download any number of free programs such as Irfanview or Fasttone Viewer.

This is slightly off topic, but I hope you're not archiving these photos on flash drives and just using the drives for viewing photos. Flash drives are notorious for failing. You need better and more reliable archival storage, either multiple external drives (multiple in case of drive failure) or storage in the cloud. I agree with the extra large icon solution in Windows.

therwol is right, you need to have an archive copy of your photos.

Old motor-driven har drives are very low cost excellent for archiving removing the monthly update and storing in a drawer safe in the e-static bag and box they came in. There are many free backup programs. USB to SATA drives are not costly.

Maybe he simply has a fob with images where he wants to view the Windows Explorer thumbnails larger.
It could be that simple...

How complicated and involved can we make this?

I use Irfanview for that and can recommend it. It has a small footprint, is fast, easy to use, and it is free for non-commercial use.

Thank you gentlemen. Doesn't sound too hard to do. Sorry I'm a little late, but I've been building some new back steps :) Cheers

In File Explorer select View-Large icon. Double click on any photo and it will open full screen.

Others have mentioned Irfanview. This has been a GREAT program for me over the years.
Handles a huge number of picture formats, is freeware, and sort of a Swiss Army Knife
for working with a variety of graphic formats.

All you need is this:

https://www.fastpictureviewer.com/codecs/

It will handle almost any image file type and is compatible with some different versions of Windows.

I've installed this inexpensive codec on all my Windows machines for many years. It works quite well and displays all my images as small thumbnails in Explorer (choice of two sizes, larger of which is usually enough for image identification). It also allows images to be opened as a larger version in Windows Photo Viewer and similar (color may not be correctly displayed, though).

Have been using IrfanView for a couple decades now. It is definitely worth more than you will pay for it.

It also has a slide show mode in which you can produce a slide show on your computer. You can also export an EXE file of the slide show for another computer.
