I’m looking for recommendations on a decent printer for photographs. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

I use an Epson photo stylus 1500 printer and I find it excellent
Print a lot or print a little?
Print for sale or print for hanging or gifts.
Just for home use but print quality is a must.
You have very few choices in home sized photo printers. You can tell it is a photo printer when it has six, eight or more color ink cartridges. Both Epson and Canon make them. The lower cost ones use dye ink that is less archival than the ones with pigment ink.
If you get an Epson or Canon with 6 or more colors, you will get beautiful prints. There is no best.
Start your comparison shopping with looking at a Canon Pixma Pro 200. It may or may not be best for you but will be a great place to start.
I am very happy with a Canon Pixma Pro 100 and got a great deal a couple years ago with a Canon rebate ($150 after rebate).
Look seriously at HP; quality, price and their ink program is great!
Please find out when purchasing if your cannon will prevent you from using the scanner or fax options when you run out of ink.

The Epson Expression Photo HD XP-15000 Wide-format Printer has been a great printer for me. Prints that I have done up to 13x19 have been excellent. Only have had about eight months so can't comment on its durability over time.

Been down this road… when you consider paper cost, printer cost, re-printing cost…… Photo printing services are so cheap now, it’s much more economical to pay to print them.😀
This subject has surfaced so many times on UHH. Guess as technology changes it’s good to revisit.
If you want quality be prepared to pay a little more for a printer with like 8 or more pigmented inks. This impacts the cost on both the printer and inks.
How much are you going to use the printer? If not much. You need to do nozzle checks or head cleanings to keep the heads from clogging rendering your printer useless.
If you are not going to make money from your prints I would seriously consider using an on-line pro service. Cheaper in the long run.
Printing at home is fun but can also cause you anxiety with color matching and ink cost issues.
Thank you, that’s the type of info I was looking for.
Thank you, you make some great points, especially the head cleaning,

I use an Epson Surecolor P800, 17X22 printer and it is outstanding in every respect.

I have used a lot of printers in my time.
Out of all of them, I have had the best experiences using Canon printers.
They have been the stingiest with ink, reliable and trouble free. Also make nice looking prints.
